Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m reviewing the Farsley game and previewing our upcoming matches against Gainsborough and Nuneaton.
So we’re through to the West Riding County Cup final and have a date at Valley Parade following a 2-1 victory over Farsley on Tuesday night.
With a depleted squad including only two substitutions we looked comfortable in the first half and took a seemingly commanding 2-0 lead through two James Walshaw strikes.
But it was in the second 45 minutes where we could have easily lost the game. Farsley pulled a goal back after a poor Simon Ainge defensive error and went on to bombard the Guiseley goal.
We struggled to threaten at the other end and looked like the team playing in a lower league against formidable opponents.
However we’re through and have a chance of retaining the cup but this will not be easy against old rivals Bradford Park Avenue in their home town.
We’ll have to play a lot better if we are to stand a chance of beating both Gainsborough and Nuneaton, two strong outfits who are also among the play-off pack.
Tomorrow we entertain a Gainsborough side who beat us 1-0 earlier in the season while we travel to Nuneaton on Monday to take on the team we drew 1-1with in the reverse fixture.
We must look to bounce back from a poor cup performance with our still depleted squad and showcase our desire to progress from this league.
Debuts could be offered to Matt Wilson who signed today on loan from Alfreton Town, Dean Lisles and Norwegian youngster Thomas Halvorsen.
It’ll be tough having two games in three days against play-off contending opposition but it’s key that we bounce back from the poor 2-1 home loss to relegation threatened Eastwood Town.
We have the talent in our locker but it’s about producing on the pitch and the players need to be fired up.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will look back at our past cup final appearances.
