Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m looking at this season’s key players.
Our goalkeeper will play a massive part in deciding the future of the club.
Steve Drench has produced marvellous saves to both keep us in and win us games this season.
His play-off experience from last season will help as we move towards the season’s conclusion.
Three fantastic penalty saves in the shootout at Boston helped us through to the play-off final.
More importantly his crucial penalty save on a freezing Blyth night helped FatherBrid win some cash on the Supporters Coach ball game!
Centre back Danny Ellis is the core and spine of the side. He rarely has a bad game and keeps the back line secure at all times.
His experience, loyalty to the club, strength and focus are an example to other players. He’s a role model who helps keep the team together.
We badly missed him when he was injured earlier in the season. His spell of absence showed what a difference he makes to the side.
He has established a solid partnership with fellow defensive ace Simon Ainge.
In midfield both Gavin Rothery and Andy Holdsworth are key to the team.
Rothery’s absence to the end of the season could go a long way to deciding how this campaign ends.
His goals and overall contribution to the squad will be sorely missed in the coming games.
Holdsworth has made a name for himself having arrived in October and helped shape the season for the club.
He’s a fan favourite who’s always battling and looking for that sublime pass or strike that often decides matches.
Up front fellow fan favourite James Walshaw has to showcase the skills he highlighted last season and continue to score goals.
He’s always pestering opposition defences and is a menace in front of the nets.
He has the ability to turn a game on its head with one piece of genius.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will preview the Colwyn Bay, Altrincham and Bradford Park Avenue games.
