Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m reviewing the Colwyn Bay game and previewing the Altrincham and Bradford Park Avenue matches.
Once again we came from behind in the first half and recovered with a better second half display to triumph 2-1 over Colwyn Bay.
We had a poor start to a game where going in we’d won our last five while Colwyn had lost their last four.
Bay took the lead through McKenna’s tap in on 35 minutes before Simon Ainge’s two strikes in three minutes put us ahead.
His first was aided by a deflection from former Premier League own goal specialist Frank Sinclair while his second was a header.
It’s another fantastic result and a battle in which we have shown we can overcome adversity to produce a positive outcome.
We take on eighth placed Altrincham at Nethermoor on Bank Holiday Monday in another tough test.
They’ll both be looking to overcome today’s 3-1 home loss to league leaders Hyde and still put up a fight for a play-off slot.
Their former Guiseley loan ace Damian Reeves is no stranger to the net having notched 39 strikes so far this season to lead the goal scoring charts.
If we do slip behind again hopefully we can recover with the same gusto that helped us to a 2-2 draw from 2-0 down in this season’s earlier encounter.
That match also ironically occurred on a Bank Holiday Monday!
It is important we focus and take each game as it comes rather
than having one eye on the County Cup final against Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday evening.
Some say league form goes out of the window in these games but both sides have enjoyed a rich vein of recent results to propel them up the table with confidence.
It’ll be a tricky tie as we’re lining up against our local rivals in their home city at Valley Parade.
The Evo-stik Premier Division outfit’s squad is glittered with ex Guiseley players such as Tom Greaves, Clark Lydon, Matty James and Alex Davidson.
Danny Boshell’s brother Nicky also competes for the high fliers.
But sometimes John Deacey’s side can be as great as they are poor.
Their biggest home win this season came in an 8-0 thumping over Harrogate Railway in the FA Cup but their biggest away loss was 8-1 at AFC Totton in the same competition.
It’ll be a great occasion at Valley Parade. Hopefully we can retain the trophy as we appear in the final for the second consecutive year.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will look at the Blue Square North relegation battle.
