Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m reviewing the play-off semi-final second leg.
It was a tense battle; we survived a frantic Nuneaton onslaught to take the tie to extra time but couldn’t prevent Town’s classy winning strike.
In fairness, our opponents faced us with a game plan and utilised that strategy to the full.
They’re a tough team to play and I don’t think anyone could argue they deserved the victory overall.
The absence of players such as Gavin Rothery, James Walshaw and Simon Baldry cost us dear.
Rothery’s injury changed our season while Wally’s controversial sending off hindered us in the season’s final stages.
Baldry’s sudden illness/injury made it a stacked deck but Nuneaton deserve full credit for the way they performed over the two games.
They now face a tricky sold out final away at Gainsborough.
Both sides shouldn’t be short of support as Trinity fans will be there to capacity while Town are sure to bring along plenty of support.
As for Guiseley, the Lions will battle on. The team have done us proud again this season winning the County Cup and coming within grasp of promotion.
Kitty and the lads earned a deserved round of applause from many supporters after the game on Sunday.
To come so close to promotion in two successive seasons is no mean feat. We’ve come so far since winning the old Unibond come Evo-Stik League.
Congratulations must also go to Simon Ainge who not only scores when he wants but also gets picked for the England C squad.
His performances and goals this season have been vital to the team and earned him deserved international recognition.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time we’ll begin our review of the season.
