The battle of the two teams at the top of the Academy league resulted in a disappointing defeat for Guiseley in a game that could have been won.
The Lions more than had the measure of a fairly static Mansfield defence, and scored three well taken goals - the first being an excellent, running chip from the right hand corner of the area - but defensive errors cost them dearly on another entertaining afternoon at Nethermoor.
Zack Dale and Luke Porritt both did well for the Lions, but they were reduced to playing catch-up most of the game as the league leaders kept edging ahead and snatched the points with a competent but far from dazzling display.
Work in progress, then, and the odd thing to address and iron out in the odd places, but a lot of hope and promise to build on. And that first league win at Fort Neth might not be all that long in coming...

Very good game, our first goal was a great finish looped over the keeper and into the bottom corner. Things just need sorting out at the back stop conceding soft goals then we could have got a point or maybe even three points today. They were a good side too very quick and a tall side. AB

Worth pointing out that the back four never seems to be the same from one game to the next. Injuries have played a part and players ineligible for FA Youth Cup but a settled back four will pay dividends.
