Just a very quick note to say that Otleybard will be taking a break from Forum admin, and that the duty will now be shared between myself and Mr Adambrid.
I'm sure we'd all like to take this opportunity to thank OB for his outstanding contribution in running the Forum during his tenure, and that we all now look forward to seeing the work he's now engaged in - namely in creating a 30 year historical record of the club.
Please address any new queries, brickbats, moans or otherwise to Adam, and any cheques or bungs or other financial inducements to myself, preferably in a sealed brown envelope or some other equally inconspicuous cover.
Onward and upwards with the Lions!

When yeadoner says I'll be trying to create 'a historical record of the club', don't think I'll be attempting to emulate Winston Churchill or even Jordan's blog (incidentally, hasn't he changed a lot since his days up front at Elland Road?).
What I will be trying to do - unofficially and mainly for my own interest - is an extension of what I did for the Website a couple of years ago. It'll involve collating statistical info from programmes, old yearbooks, the internet, my diaries, contemporary newspapers and the craniums of those who were around at the time. My interest in the club goes back only as far as the Frank Worthington explosion, so no doubt I'll be making the occasional request on here.
I haven't had a fallout with anyone (well, none of the regulars, anyway!), far from it. When yeadoner and I took over stewardship of the Forum, quite a few years ago now, we were warned from several quarters that it would be a thankless task or even the proverbial poisoned chalice. On the contrary, it's basically run itself, and most of those fans of rival clubs out to cause trouble have been seen off by the wit and intelligence of the other contributors without any need for the 'big stick' on our part. , What has helped, of course, is that our term of 'office' has coincided with almost constant success for the club, by which I don't just mean winning football matches. Obviously the new techologies have helped, but the provision of news and information to supporters has improved 1,000%. When we read of the prevalent attitudes at such as Cardiff City and Hull Whatever - not to mention some clubs at our level and in our region, going by their forums - it's reassuring to know that the involvement and input of the regular fans is an essential and welcome part of GFC's existence and progress. Long may it remain so.
Anyway, good luck to yeadoner and especially adambrid, whom we've watched develop on these pages from an enthusiastic (if occasionally annoying) teenager with a somewhat repetitive vocabulary into a young man with a blossoming critical faculty who does much useful work for the club and is often the first to 'break' news stories (he must have more Twitter contacts than Stephen Fry). I'm not saying goodbye - we're within an ace of getting some handy (we hope) stats back on the Website, and God willing I'll continue wandering about behind the opposition goal gibbering the usual advice to our strikers ("For pity's sake, SHOOT").
Oh yes, and I'll still be on the Forum frequently. Verbal incontinence like this takes forever on a mobile.

Is this new history intended to enhance or replace the previous history published in 1994?

An update on the forum administrators.
yeadoner has decided to step down from the role of joint administrator because of his other commitments.
I am now the sole administrator of the forum and thank you for your posts, they all contribute to a nice site to talk all things GAFC.
Thanks adambrid

Thanks! Can't imagine there's much call for mods around here but even AB must have a day off, so I'm happy to act as backup.

can someone explain the description ie "kickabout" ect and what the stars are all about-----are these some form of judgement ?--if so-- whose? They seem to go up the more you post on the forum. I don't know what the criteria is though. I don't think they're any kind of judgement on quality, just quantity. I can't imagine I'd have gotten any stars with the nonsense I post half the time...

I seem to remember it goes back to the early days when yeadoner and I administered the Forum and that it was probably his idea (he had some belters).
Both the stars and the league allocations are triggered strictly by the number of posts made and in no way relate to the length, wit, relevance, incision or verbal erudition of their content.
The young adambrid clearly understood this system, his frequent and monosyllabic 'LOL's ensuring a Wimbledonesque rise through the leagues. That led to the point where we had to create new competitions just for him, and his ultimate advancement to the role of co-administrator.
Ken Livingstone and even Machiavelli would have been proud (LOL).
Hope that clears it up!
