Just looking at the results in the leagues below and I see they won 5-0 with Spencer Harris scoring two of their goals. However what alarmed me to mention this on here is the attendance a very low 92! How the mighty have fallen. I always look at all of the attendances and results from the Evo-Stik leagues and notice the Evo-Stik Division One South always have lower crowds than the Division One North. However I think this is the lowest I have seen for a league game, only 31 people turned up to watch Romulus lose 2-1 at home to Brigg Town. My question is how do these clubs survive, there are a few in double figure attendances with some only just breaking the 100 mark. Here is the full list of results and attendances from today's matches: www.evostikleague.co.uk/results.phpAB

That would be a bumper crowd for them maybe it was the Bank Holiday Weekend that attracted so many! (to get lost) AB

I was a bit surprised when I saw the Farsley attendance too. Don't they normally get a couple of hundred? Perhaps it was becuase the Challenge Cup final was on?

That's assuming that the reported figure is correct. Perhaps Prisoner can come on here and clarify. My experience of clubs (of varying sizes) is that the reported figure is a bit of an imprecise science and then the number is occasionally misreported to whichever agency is responsible for distributing it. I doubt for instance that the Weymouth crowd was 61, as also reported yesterday.
I do think that Romulus's reported 31 sounds about right, and they had a good chance of counting this reasonably accurately.
As for Adam's query about how clubs survive - good question. Let your eyes wander right in the NLP to the equivalent divisions and you'll see low crowds at, in particular, the Ryman D1 North and Southern D1 Central (though nothing quite hitting 31). Of course the answer is a mix of sponsorship, cup runs, luck, the very occasional random player sale, the use of HMRC as a lender (by not paying taxes on time) and of course benefactors who invest for whatever reason.
The problem exists at all levels - don't forget that Roman Abramovich put £705 million into Chelsea which he then converted into shares at a later stage (as repayment was nigh on impossible - Football Fair Play would in theory now force this course of action).
And what do clubs at all reasonable levels spend most on? Player wages. Always. And then hints of more money often lead to more expenditure on players. It is a fact of 'chasing the dream'.
As for this year's oddest influx of money, check out Basford United in the Midland League - they have Lee Hendrie playing for them!

When the Unibond North & South were formed, the North Division was largely filled by successful (in crowd terms) NWC teams; whereas to fill up the South Division they took just about anybody willing to travel.
