With Bradford Park Avenue being the favourites to win the league this season, what position do you think Guiseley will realistically end the season? Will this be the year Guiseley finally go up. ROFL PTF.

Who knows, but at least we're starting the season realistically.

I don't know where Guiseley will finish but ...and this isn't just to create controversial debate....is promotion really such a desirable thing? As some of you might have noticed I like PTF follow another local non-league team as well as Guiseley. Farsley have had success outside of all reasonable expectation. BSN is not necessarily a better league to be in than the unibond- for a start it is considerably less Yorkshire in it's membership. With every promotion the club changes in it's play, it's ambition and it's fans. If the club then aim for the Conference they aim for professional status and if they don't they have no chance of survival at that level. The club's mentality changes. Maybe the owners start to think about a name change to include Leeds in the title to make them more marketable or they look to move to a different location. Maybe financial commitments get stretched and the stability of the club gets brought into doubt. There are downs as well as ups. You can loose the things you love about the club in the process. By way of example I'd prefer to follow a club with Crewe's philosophy to good football, decency towards it's players managers and fans than one whose main aim was success at any cost. PTF you might have Bob Blackburn at BPA but I'd rather not have him or his like at FCFC or GAFC even if it meant not being as successful.

This is gonna be one hell of a league to get out of this year...Lots of clubs spending money hand over fist.I think this year more than any other, if you dont spend you are gonna struggle, big time...The quality of players even at Unibond level is so high now, that even those who have played at full time pro clubs find it hard to ajust to pace and physical side of Unibond football..Yes the standard is that high!!..Chelski/BPA must be one of the favourites, but i think they are gonna get such a shock even bringing in players from so called higher levels...Plus everybody will want to beat them, just to bring Mr Blackburn back to EARTH..................With a couple of more quality signings Guiseley will be TOP FIVE, this year

Never understand expressions such as 'aim for the play-offs'. I'd hope that our aim would be the same as every other team's, namely to get as many points as possible from every game we play. My favourite 'Shanklyism' has always been 'Aim for the stars and you hit the ceiling; aim for the ceiling and you hit the floor'.
Take your point about Vinnie B, though. I really hope that Steve K was involved in his appointment, and that the two of them, Wayne and Megger can all pull together towards the same end.
And please, no more mid-season hiatuses; the last two seasons, the points dropped during the managerial changeovers have cost us the play-offs at least. SK has surely earned the right to be judged on the the basis of his team playing his way, and if that means disjointed performances and points dropped while the new side 'beds in', so be it. The last two seasons have seen us leap out of the traps only to be overtaken by sides whose own progress was steadier, while Farsley's advance the year before that was similarly stealthy.
While retaining the fans' 'right to chunter' (that's one of the reasons the Forum exists) I hope we can all pull together. Agreed, a few more sides are throwing money about (and a few more are talking themselves up alarmingly) but with a bit of luck they'll take points off each other. As long as we concentrate on getting our own game and attitude right we should do enough to be there or thereabouts come May.

Lots of sense talked on this thread. We are quite happy for other teams to come out with big statements like "win the league"We want to go about our business in a quieter, calmer way whilst being confident of a good season for all associated with GAFC.On the topic of Vinny rejoining the club,Steve was the only person, with a bit of input from me who was responsible for his appointment.Steve is in charge of all football decisions at the club and ther was no influence from the 3 guys in charge, although they are pleased with the return of Vinny.I want to say well done to the gaffer,it would be easy to see Vinny as a threat to his job if things dont go right, but in fairness that doesnt worry him one bit,he is very confident in his and my ability to get the job done. Also after meeting with Vinny we were impressed and we dont feel that he is here for any other reason than to be a big part of the management team and to help us to bring a period of success to this great little club.
