Last few times v Guiseley:
Last time we played them in the league was season 1997/98.
Results:
Tuesday 2nd Sept 1997: Guiseley 1 Boston Utd 1 - Att:403
Saturday 28th March 1998: Boston United 2 Guiseley 1 - Att: 652
News from the close season:
Following relegation from the Football League on the last day of the season in May 2007, Boston suffered further ignominy with relegation to the Conference North plus a 10 point penalty due to inability to pay their creditors 100% of all money's owed on their debts.
Boston were then hit again when, due to them still being in administration on Saturday 2nd May, the Conference invoked further penalties and relegated them to the Unibond League.
Despite successive relegations the players appear to be staying loyal to the club, with former Hull defender, Tom Matthews, saying:
"We've all been talking with each other throughout the summer because of the situation. We were all gutted to go down but we agreed that we signed for Boston because we wanted to be at Boston and we'll all fight together for the club. As a footballer you always want to play as high as possible but the club has always treated us in the right way - that makes you want to be loyal. We have good relationships with the fans, the manager, the chairman and everyone here so we decided we should all try and help this club back up."
With a host of new close season signings to supplement their already powerful squad, they must be amongst the favourites for promotion in the fast approaching Unibond season
What we do think of them and/or how much do they annoy us:
It's so long since we played them that it's difficult to remember any serious gripes or grudges, but fans could expect a pretty decent half day out if we're set to visit Boston on semi-decent Saturday afternoon. On the other hand, a long trip to Lincs on a freezing February night could be a turn off for all but our most loyal travelling fans.
What's their Forum like?
Lively, loyal and very supportive, and that's just the Forum that's linked to their main club website. The best and (for us) the funniest review of the places they'll be visiting this coming season is this gem of a quip from the quite entertaining www.impstalk.co.uk about our 'good friends' down at the Avenue:
"BPA call the Horsfall Athletics Stadium home. Boasting - if that’s the word we’re looking for, and it probably isn’t - a motley collection of temporary looking cabins, running track and ‘substantially refurbished’ tea room (they bought a kettle), it’s probably not the worst ground United fans will visit, nor the most dangerous".
Likely prospects this season:
Top four at least, and strong contenders for promotion.
Current odds:
13/2 (Coral)
