Good performance last night on a pitch that in places resembled a pasture rather than a football pitch. I was impressed with the general fitness of the players as all appeared to have plenty of running left in them at 90 minutes. So congratulations to Kitty and Wayne. Out of interest, and Wayne can possibly answer this, has it taken much for them to achieve this fitness level, and did any show signs of having kept themselves fit during the summer break ? Always wondered if players literally take 'the break' and wait till pre-season to build it back up.

Thanks for the comments Leedslion. The lads have only had six training sessions before last night and i agree with you that the fitness levels looked good. Some of the lads will have done some work during the off season, some wont. Some are fitter than others at this stage but come August 16th everyone will be very, very fit it is something that the manager insists on.It was also something that we thought long and hard about when we were looking at who we wanted to bring to the club.We have gone for people who look after themselves, and also the lads who have come in are all a good age.I think the average age of the squad is about 23,24 which should ensure that fitness wont be a problem this season. The training we have done so far has been very hard but the feedback from the lads is that it has been enjoyable which is always nice to hear. With the games coming now training will switch from being endurance based to sharp and intense to create the sharpness and the games are used to formulate confidence, shape and pattern of play.We are fortunate that we have a group of lads whose attitude towards training is fantastic, and also a group of lads who are determined to give a very good account of themselves over the coming season. We will have to step up on what we did last night against Bradford.Undoubtedly they will be fitter and it will be a tough match but our lads are looking forward to it,we know we will have to work extremely hard to be competitive so in that respect it will be an excellent workout.

That's probably why they're previous managers.
