This isn’t a complaint or a rant at our management team, but after the latest signing we now have 7? They can’t all play so what’s the plan? And who will play?

Looks like we are going to play 7-2-1 formation.

Still go back to my previous question, when are we going to sign a striker with a proven track record? It’s fine building the defence but haven’t we got enough now? We need a quality striker, someone who can get into double figures.
That’s what we have lacked for some time.

Agree Lioncub.Maybe management already know that some of them are a bit suspect injury wise and are covering bases!but didn't Simon Ainge start out as a defender?

On the subject of strikers with proven track records, by my reckoning we now have odejaye, Clayton, liburd and Thompson, at this level imo all are capable of weighing in with a good amount of goals, and I would suggest all are proven?

Reece Thompson is surely proven at this level? He top scored in a pretty dismal North Ferriby Team in the NL and scored a belter against us at Nethermoor if I remember correctly. His chances were limited under Lockwood and Cox, but as soon as he got out on loan to Boston he scored one every other game for them. What we wouldn’t have given for a striker who’d have done that last season! Rowan Liburd bagged seven goals in nineteen starts last year, and if we can stop him drifting out of games he should improve on that this year. Who knows perhaps having to look Kayode Odejayi in the eye at the end of every game will motivate him to do better. I suppose the last few years we have struggled a little when we lose our first choice centre back to injury or suspension. Jake Lawlor’s ability to play defence or midfield was useful, but too often meant we had to make changes in two areas of the pitch instead of just one. So having quality back up as we seem to have this time around augers well.

Agree. Reece, Rowan should prove more than enough. Impossible not to like the man mountain that is Kayode and all those who disagree go shake his hand!

I admire everyones optimism regarding our strikers. I too would like to be cautiously optimistic , however I still think we need someone new to challenge Reece and Rowan. Also not sure why folk seem to think strikers will have an easier time of it in the lower league , I think it will be a tough season ahead. Come on you Lions 🦁🦁🦁

Yes, we've signed a few defenders so far, but there's still a good amount of time to get players in, and there'll still be players that will no doubt be on trial with the club, that until they've been played in friendlies, decisions can't be made on them.
Also, there's nothing to say that players have finished leaving the club yet is there, so perhaps that's been taken into consideration with the signings made so far.
What we have signed is versatility, Kennedy is a capable right back as well as centre half, Heaton can play at left back as well as in the centre, Louie Swain can play at left midfield if needed, and Cliff Moyo whilst primarily being a right back can also play in midfield.
I'm confident Reece will score goals for us at this level, and I also think Rowan can prove the doubters wrong. Kayode is well respected by the coaching staff and the players, and i'm sure the academy lads will benefit from having players of his experience and professional attitude around them.

Of course there’s always Albert Ibrahimi. He’s returned to the academy after a spell at Bradford, and yes he’s ‘not proven at this level’ but if you saw him play you’d see he has quality and potential, and how often have we had that of late?

I think on the subject of strikers you’d logically play Odejayi and Reece together so Reece has some muscle behind him to get the ball and get it through to him. Unless of course they can get Rowan to play that strength role...

Odejayi is anything but a proven goal scorer in recent seasons or his career. Only averages one goal in eight games. So if he plays all season may get 6. Hope he proves me wrong with better service from the flanks.

Which raises another interesting point: presumably we're not expecting Curtis Morrison to operate on both wings at the same time?

We need a quality striker, someone who can get into double figures. This is a thought for January I mean if you want a striker, which we might, Moses Emanuel over at Billericay has 1 goal every 4 as a career average. He’s 29 with non league experience...
