A close game at Ewen Fields today which was stop, start, stop, start. We had some good chances in the second half but couldn’t find a second equaliser. More tomorrow…. AB

That was the worst refereeing performance I have ever seen.
Don’t get me wrong we were at fault for both goals conceded, but the referee didn’t help by whistling every two seconds for nothing challenges, and absolutely ignoring the concept of playing advantage. Why on Earth he pulled play back on more than one occasion when we were in on goal I will never know. The best I can hope is that he realises just how dreadful a performance that was.
I think we started well, and certainly with more energy than in recent games but switched off and got caught for the first goal. Then we regressed for the rest of the half. Much improved in the second half, We had enough chances to get a least a point which I actually think would’ve been a fair result.
But (and I think this bears repeating) MAN did that referee suck!

We should have had at least a draw but after getting back into the game we gifted them a goal and we need to stop rolling over and add more bite. Have to agree with the comments above regarding the referee as his performance was abject and the worst I have seen for a decade or so. Hyde players used gamesmanship to it's fullest extent to disrupt the flow of the game which added to the whistle being blow every couple of minutes killed the game as a spectacle.

A draw would certainly have been a fairer result. We are going to have to learn to start tougher, our mid field could not have been more inept in the first half if it had tried. The sooner that referee selectors realise that the football played in this league is hard, fast and uncompromising and we need the best and strongest officials to manage this, not the ones cutting their teeth. Mistakes made at this level have far more reaching consequences than at gentile premiership paced football. The referee today was inept and so easily conned it was laughable except results matter and officials are supposed to add to and enhance the game and today's most certainly did not.

2nd half much better with Qasim central and Haw behind the front 2. I actually asked the ref to donate his match fee to charity but he declined. Walker looked very good. Time to convert promise into results

I really wish that we would stop giving teams a head start- we have conceded first in 8 of our 12 matches so far this season, and when you are trying to get back into the game from the sixth minute like we were yesterday, it is always going to be tough.
Unfortunately, it looked like another two soft goals conceded with the second being particularly frustrating given we had just got ourselves back into the match.
I thought new signing Walker looked fairly decent and although he was completely anonymous in the first half, Qasim grew into the match in the second, aided by some excellent delivery by Adam Haw who I thought was superb when he came on at halftime.
If 10 league matches is usually a good indicator of how we might fare this season, it’s W4 D1 L5 with 11 goals scored and 14 conceded. I would say right now, 11th place in the league is probably a very fair reflection of where we are at currently.
I’m still convinced that there is a good side in our squad somewhere that could still yet challenge for the play-offs, hopefully it will materialise soon.

Not understanding why Adam Haw is not on from the start - he is a far better foil for Cassidy and could operate just behind him and Mo. Has good vision too.

We certainly looked much better with Qasim, Cassidy and Haw all bothering their central defenders. First half, Jake was too isolated again. He so clearly works better with players closer around him to pick up those headers he wins. Though Nicky Walker looked a good addition as well. A decent delivery on him and certainly willing to go get the ball if it doesn’t come straight to him. Adam Haw was desperately unlucky not to equalise. We still look lightweight in the middle without Luke Dean - he’s going to need some assistance. All in all, not the worst performance by any means. Improvement required for sure, but no need to despair. We’re still a work in progress.

Another dismal first half performance - that’s 12 matches played this season and we have scored in the first half of just 3 and the earliest of those goals was 43mins. Something must be wrong with preparation, team selection or tactics - or all three for that to happen. A simple goal conceded in the first five minutes puts us on the back foot for most of the rest of the match. It looked like 4-2-3-1 in the first half, Cassidy isolated again, Qasim out on the left where he hardly had a touch, Johnston in the middle where he is wasted and new man Walker on the right - jury out on him. Wood and Cadman out gunned in midfield so once again we had little decent possession and failed to create a decent chance in the whole first half. Johnston off injured after half an hour and Dean on - why didn’t he start, he’s our most effective ball winner in midfield?
Credit to the Danny’s for changing it at half time - we looked much better in the second half. Haw on, Cadman off and a switch to 4-4-2 with Qasim alongside Cassidy and suddenly we were asking many more questions of the Hyde defence. Haw was excellent again, playing behind the front two and linking the play between the midfield and attack with some astute passing and strong running. We desperately need an experienced creative passing midfield player to do exactly what Haw was doing in the second half - a Danny Boshell type player for those who can remember. I think that is the main missing ingredient over the first quarter of the season, that and a more clinical approach in front of goal - 11 goals scored in 10 matches simply isn’t enough.
Not sure I agree with others that we deserved a draw - yet again we didn’t turn up in the first half and you can’t just match the opposition for half the game and expect to get a result. That said, the league is very tight and despite losing four of our last five league matches we are still only four points outside the play offs and there is three quarters of the season to go. A final word on the referee - in short abysmal. Must have awarded about 40 free kicks and booked at least six players in a match that hardly had any bad tackles and this contributed to a poor match that lacked any flow or momentum. Basically he spoiled the game for everyone. The better referees are the ones you don’t notice - everyone noticed this guy all match!!

I can only echo the comments above, I don't like criticising referees as it is often a lazy excuse for a defeat or why we haven't won a match but yesterday's official was bad for both sides. He gave numerous free kicks which not one person in the ground appealed for and this happened both ways too, some his bookings were incredibly soft and the game never flowed because of it. There was a time in the first half for Hyde when he should definitely have played advantage as they passed forward and then we had fed Cassidy clean through in the second 45 and he blew again for a free kick when there was no need to do so, frustrating. Onto the game, Hyde were the better team in the first half and the only chance we really created was a header from Mohammad Qasim which was easily saved. Liam Tongue, the only former Lion on show, impressed all game and created the first goal with a pass to pick out Brown who lobbed an advancing Scott, a goal out of nothing. Tongue fired at Scott from a free kick but otherwise chances were extremely limited in a stop, start first half. The second half was a much better contest with both sides creating more. We equalised just four minutes into the half when Qasim's shot was poked in by Fagbola. Just a few minutes later we had a free kick in a good position but it was straight at the wall from Walker. Hyde countered after a soft free kick had been given and got the winner from a goal which perhaps should have been defended better and it was Fagbola who got it. We nearly equalised immediately when Wood turned and shot from the edge of the box and his shot went just wide of the mark. The next chance went to Qasim who was played in behind the Hyde defence but they recovered to block his shot. Haw was so unlucky to not get a goal to cap off another good performance, he flicked a cross goalwards but someone Ellison got a hand to the header to stop it going in. Cassidy was the next to test Ellison with a powerful shot from a tight angle but once again the keeper wouldn't be beaten. The final chance of the afternoon fell to Dean who shot just wide of goal. We move on to Tuesday night's trip to Gainsborough Trinity. Come on Guiseley! AB
