Thought we allowed Ashton too much time on the ball in the first half and they had a comfortable 45 minutes. It was the most unassured performance from the back 4 with no one standing out.
Again we had to come back from 2 nil down and whilst I understand wanting to change to system taking off Joe and Adam was a mystery to me.
Yes the ref didn’t have a great game, their players fell over at the slightest touch but our home form is utterly dreadful and we need to start picking up some points. Playoffs hopefuls we aren’t, bottom four probably not but a push up the table seems a long way off currently.

I arrived at half-time, and have no idea how we lost the game on the basis of what I saw. Ashton looked pretty limited as a side and we dominated the attacking play. The ref was easily conned, which was frustrating to watch.
The main shortcoming I noticed about us in possession was the lack of someone who could pass a bit more incisively than to the next teammate along. There were a few too many passes across the lines which took the steam out of promising attacks.

I have to agree that we gave them far too much time on the ball which allowed them to pass much more accurately and closed us down in numbers which particularly in the first half resulted in them having the upper hand,we cannot rely on the opposition making mistakes in order to get possession. I agree also, the substitutions bemused me. What I didn't like seeing was the amount of exasperated waving of arms and questioning of errors between some of our players on the pitch, save that for the dressing room after the game and concentrate on the job in hand.

Well if you're Lewis Whitham your right to be waving your arms and questioning why you don't get the ball when you're in acres of space. Several times George Smith went for the through ball which was inevitably intercepted by the opposition instead of the simple ball to Whitham, but he's not on his own. Long balls up to Jake Cassidy are also a waste of time, he's a striker, not a target man. And while on the subject why can we not take a decent free kick or a corner? I'd have them practising these until the cows come home on Thursday evening. Mantra ought to be K.I.S.S - keep it simple stupid!

Stop. Playing. It. Long. To. Cassidy.
He wins little in the air at the best of times, and to be fair to him, he'd have needed to be 20ft tall to meet some of the "passes" he was given last night.
I appreciate it can't be as easy as it might seem, but whenever we got the ball down and played it to feet last night we looked very dangerous (and scored an excellent goal), but we spent far too much of the match simply kicking the ball back to Ashton.
It comes down, once again, to the lack of a really good central midfielder. Oh for another Danny Boshell.

Well actually it did make me wonder if Ross Daly is that man. We’ve already seen we’re only one or two players away from a great run, and we lost three plus Mbeka in the last week

Was working last night but managed to wangle an early finish to see the second half. We were clearly the better team in that second half but sometimes the final ball was lacking and also lacked composure (with the exception of Haw’s fine goal) when chances did arise.
With Daly and Chippendale back in midfield we will be a different proposition so no need to despair.
Was somewhat puzzled by the substitutions but twice now Ackroyd has been replaced late on so maybe he is carrying a knock?
In Danny and Danny We Trust.

Was somewhat puzzled by the substitutions but twice now Ackroyd has been replaced late on so maybe he is carrying a knock? There was a worrying moment in the second half when he slipped over under no challenge and yelled out in pain, but a moment later an opportunity came and he jumped right up and sprinted off after the ball, so it does seem possible that he might be, but hopefully it's nothing too bad. I wasn't sure about playing him in central midfield. I think he's better further forward. But again, I suppose needs must sometimes.

Whilst he puts a shift in and can occupy a central defender, this tactic rarely seems to create anything meaningful for us. We have some really good options in the wide areas now so we should be better utilising these options. Sadly I did wonder if we would suffer after Mbeka was recalled to Boston and we have been poor in the back 4 in the last two games without him.

It was definitely, yes let's roll out that cliche, a game of two halves last night. Ashton took full advantage of two set piece chances scoring from the spot and from a free kick which no keeper stood any chance of saving. They did also hit the outside of the post with a shot from long range which had beaten Hiddleston in goal. We did start on top but that didn't carry on for the rest of the half and the visitors went in in front. Hiddleston nearly stopped the penalty but Osei managed to put enough power on the shot to score. Then Lonsdale smacked in a free kick into the top corner which was a cracking finish to double his side's lead. The second half was much better from ourselves and Adam Haw scored just five minutes into the 45 to half the deficit with a ruthless finish at the end of a good move. Whitham forced Hartley into a good stop with his finger tips. We dominated the play for the rest of the half but Ashton looked as if they could have been dangerous on the counter attack. Despite plenty of possession we struggled to break down the defence and that resulted in another home defeat. Onto Saturday's trip to Radcliffe. Come on Guiseley! AB
