I see we don’t have a pitch inspection down, are we very confident with all this rain the game is definitely on?

Liversedge have called their game off, not sure what it’s like round there but very wet in Manchester.

Met Office rain radar says the rain will clear up about 11.30, and then not come back until the second half. So depending on how heavy the rain fall is/has been, I’d say there’s a decent chance. The Nethermoor pitch is much hardier than it used to be. Fingers crossed!

Happy with that. Nantwich were a worry, one of the form teams recently. I felt we were positive and press well. Frustrating to go a goal behind but great character to stick at things. Great to see Jake Cassidy back late on and delighted for Andy Kellett to get a goal.
I thought we were lucky with the Murphy challenge in the first half but for once the decision was favourable to us in a key moment. Overall though we were worthy winners and probably the scoreline flattered the visitors.
Overall a decent start for the new manager, I wonder whether we might just push on for a push on the playoffs now - could be an interesting few weeks ahead!

I know I’ve said this before, but can we do everything we can to keep Lewis Whitham? The lad is sheer class and could well become our player of the season.
He caused problems for the Nantwich defence every time he got the ball today, and his willingness to have a shot is something we’ve been wanting to see at at Nethermoor for ages.
I’ve not been as grumpy going home for several matches now, so the whole town gets the benefit when we play like we did today!

A well deserved win which could have gone the other way after a rocky first half. Nantwich started the game really strongly and fully deserved their early goal through James Caton's powerful strike leaving Mason with no chance. They could have had a goal just before too but Mason got down well to save when one on one with Roxborough. We were struggling to really put a mark on the game and Nantwich were attacking at will but couldn't keep onside. Booth made an excellent stop after 20 minutes though to deny Meppen-Walters' header from flying in. We did start to come into the game more and Murphy saw a shot saved and Chippendale was denied. With seven minutes of the half remaining the hard work paid off when it was like pinball in the Nantwich box but Andy Kellett kept a calm head to bury the ball into the net. That gave us confidence to push for a second but Booth was having none of it and made some good saves in the closing minutes. The second half was all one way traffic though and there only looked like being one winner and that was us. Meppen-Walters had a glorious chance in the opening five minutes to put us in front but he headed over. Lewis Whitham though wouldn't be so wasteful and he fired past a posse of Nantwich defenders and left Booth standing as the ball went past him into the bottom corner, a really good finish. We continued to press for a third but it just wouldn't come after Booth made several saves an visiting defenders got vital blocks on shots. Whitham looked the most likely to cause Nantwich further problems and his shot dropped just wide of the post after a good block. Ible headed over from a set piece and Chapman was through one on one with Booth but the keeper got just enough on his shot to send it past the post. As we entered injury time there was still time for the busy Booth to deny Whitham again. Nantwich had a late flurry but we saw the game out for our first win of 2023! Well played Guiseley. Onto Whitby Town away on Tuesday night. Come on Guiseley! AB

Some of the best attacking football I’ve seen us play in years. The number of extra chances we were getting by winning back failed crosses/shots too was unusual - must be a result of that intensity he wants to see.
It was my first time seeing CMW too. He is one of the most unusual players I’ve seen play for us.
I didn’t see the Murphy incident as clearly as those around me but I will say that the player was visibly clearly not ok and shouldn’t have been playing on after being knocked out. I can’t understand why their physio couldn’t see what we could from thirty yards away. Makes you doubt they have the individual’s health ahead of the manager’s preferred lineup. I hope the player is ok.

Thought Nantwich started a lot faster and brighter than Guiseley and wasn’t surprised when they scored. We could easily have been two down after Nantwich walked through the middle of our defence and was thwarted by a good save from Mason. When we eventually started to play there was only one team in it a goal by Kellett sent us in all square at half time. We came out a different team in the second half straight on the front foot with attack after attack. Got our rewards with Whitham getting a well deserved goal. Good performance from Guiseley probably should have won by more but three points and a decent display. Well done to all concerned. Onwards and upwards.

Slow start again but once we were up and running there was only one team ever going to win it although Nantwich looked good in spells. Good to see Andy Kellett get a full game in and score the opener, he might also have solved another problem for us as all of his corners were spot on the mark, something that we have struggled with in recent weeks.

Awful first half, but good start to second. Agree we need to do all we can to keep Whitman. We’ve got a player. How easy that will be given the division we are in may prove difficult.

As others have stated we were outplayed in the first 20 minutes and fortunate to be only a single goal behind when the team woke up and started to get a grip of the game which they went on to dominate and should have won by more than one goal. We can’t afford to start that slowly in the upcoming matches against the better teams in the league. As I have previously said we need to be more clinical in front of goal - conversion rate of chances created isn’t high enough. Worrying that the Nantwich defender was allowed to play on when it appeared we was knocked unconscious for at least a few seconds in the clash with Murphy. Another referee would have viewed the incident differently and sent him off although I don’t think there was any intent, it did look reckless.
So, 23 league matches played, 9 wins, 4 draws and 10 defeats. For the first time in a while we are nearer the playoffs (6 points) than the relegation zone (7 points). Interesting that 7 of the 9 wins have come against the 9 teams below us and only 2 (in 13 matches) against the teams above us (FCUM and Matlock at home). That statistic needs to change significantly if we are to get into the playoffs.
