Also Whitby Towns coverage of the game was excellent, and a really fun listen. Obviously it helps that we won, but those lads are volunteers too and covered the game with remarkably good humour. I can’t promise I’d have been so seemingly good humoured about a 2-0 defeat at home. Fair play to them.

And not forgetting Jake Days powerful 💩that Cam smothered well Big 🙏 to the Twitter Feed tonight which provided delight and 🤣 . Great result. Saturday will be a proper test but imagine a win?!? Although DJ will be the first to say “Its the hope….” Message to the Media Crew… I think the move (on match day playlist) from Rock to Terry Hall/Lightning Seeds has seen an upturn in results - Just a Thought 😅

Have to agree with DJ re: Whitby's commentary which was really entertaining with a bit of an edge and ironic at times. Good three points away from home but tough one on Saturday against South Shields who I would think will have been watching us tonight.

A proper games of two halves last night thanks to the very strong breeze blowing from end to end at Whitby’s ground where a very heavy pitch and periodic sweeping rain were also features. Guiseley played with the wind in the first half and made a great start thanks to Whelan’s smart finish inside the box after only 2 minutes. Thereafter Whitby were pinned in their own half for much of the first 45 minutes thanks to the wind and Guiseley’s pressing which yielded several good chances which were not taken before Whelan struck again just before half time with a precise finish into the corner of the net from outside the box to give Guiseley a deserved two goal cushion at half time. Thanks to the wind Whitby enjoyed much more possession and territory in the second half with Guiseley sitting back, absorbing the pressure and happy to play on the break. Defensively very well organised and solid, Whitby were limited to a couple of decent chances late on and it was an impressive Guiseley display showing both attacking quality in the first half and defensive solidity in the second to deservedly take the points.
Having now taken 12 points from the last five league matches, compared to one from the previous five, Paul Phillip’s instant impact is clearly showing through in results. Now just four points from the playoffs and second in the recent form table behind South Shields, Saturday’s encounter at Nethermoor should be very interesting. Also interesting is that we now have 34 points from 24 matches, more than half those points, 18, have been gained from just three teams, Whitby, Nantwich and Morpeth who we have each beaten twice. Also means we have taken just 16 points from the other 17 teams in the league so far (we haven’t played Lancaster yet). As I have previously mentioned, we need to start beating the teams higher up the league table if we are to mount a serious challenge on the playoffs. Current form suggests that is very possible.

An excellent performance last night and the most one sided half of football I have ever seen in person. We got going right from the off and scored from our first shot when Leigh Whelan spun on the ball and buried it past Shane Bland after just two minutes. The wind was behind our backs and the attacks were constant, Andy Kellett's corners were causing problems all over the place in their backline and Bland had to be alert to stop one from dropping in the net with another nearly being headed in by a home defender. Lewis Whitham also forced a good save from Bland as Courtney Meppen-Walters also fired over from a good angle. Callum Chippendale saw his shot blocked before Whitham went close again. The wind was incredibly strong to the point where goalkicks weren't entering our half and one went straight out for a throw in near the corner flag. Two minutes before the break Whelan doubled his and his side's tally for the night when Whitham saw his shot blocked, the number six looked up 20 yards out and picked his spot to beat Bland in the home goal. Whitby had their first attempt on goal after 47 minutes but Cam Mason was able to deny Aaron Braithwaite from halving the deficit. The second half was a battle of attrition against the strong wind for us but we did well and limited Whitby to only a couple of chances. They should have been scored though and it was former Lion Jake Day who missed them both. The first he somehow managed to poke over when it looked easier to score and the second was a free header which he put wide. Connor Simpson did hit the top of the bar with an overhead kick from the final chance of the game but it was a well earned and deserved win for us! Well played Guiseley! Onto South Shields at home on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Having arrived at half time last night and missing the two goals and can safely say having watched the highlights I’ve still not seen them. I’m guessing the conditions made the filming pretty difficult.

I wasn’t there last night but the difference between his first game where we wobbled over the line and the one on Saturday where we should’ve won by three or four was very encouraging. We are hard to beat. We’ve got intensity and some tricky attacking players. South Shields will be tough. Otherwise, I’d say we’re already well positioned to go on a strong run and push into the playoff places.
