Excellent win today and a good three points to continue our charge up the table. The first half was as one sided as it gets and we had some good chances to be more than two goals to the good at the break. We struck with our first effort though when Smith’s corner was powered home by Ible, who lept like a salmon, to give us an early lead. Meppen-Walters nearly made it two but his header dropped just wide. Chippendale then saw a shot bounce off the post. We kept pushing after that but the final ball just didn’t quite fall for us. A long ball forward though found Abadaki on his debut who controlled and slotted under an advancing Roxburgh to double our lead. Whitham was next to nearly extend the lead, his cross smacked the bar and was cleared. The game entered a scrappy period, Marske threatened very little all half. The hosts starting the second half strongly and halved the deficit through Doherty’s powerful drive that hit the underside of the bar and bounced in. Payne had a glorious opportunity to level the scores with a header but it dropped wide of the mark. It was a crucial miss for the Lions as the next opening saw George Smith’s free kick evade everyone in the box and it went into the bottom corner. Ten minutes later it was 4-1 and Roxburgh didn’t cover himself in glory once more when Whitham’s shot squirmed away from him and Whelan couldn’t miss but showed great reactions to follow the shot up. It 2as immediately 4-2 though when Boyes showed his class with a good finish past Mason. Abadaki saw a shot saved and Mason denied a Marske effort finding its way past him. All in all a good win on a tricky surface. Well played Guiseley! Onto FC United of Manchester away on Tuesday night. Come on Guiseley! AB

Tricky surface to play on but one of the friendliest clubs I can remember visiting - their chairman brought us a drink and biscuits at half time!
Good result when it could’ve gotten sticky when they scored after half time.

Brilliant performance in the first half. Completely outplayed them. Did enough to deserve our victory after they rallied. Big win today at good hosts. Very satisfying and no stone island in sight (except as worn by a young lady who stood next to us briefly) - thankfully she didn’t kick off. I thought Marske had a basic but pleasant ground. Very encouraged with the progress we are making on the field.

Could have been four up at halftime but for the woodwork and expected them to rally second half which they did but we killed them off with the third goal. Another tough game at FCUM on Tuesday but nothing we can't cope with if we play like we did first half today.

Beat FCUM or Matlock and go above them in the table. We’re three points off the playoffs but six places. Beating the teams above us is the way.

Good performance from Guiseley yesterday thought first half we should have been 4 up. Marske didn’t offer much really and couldn’t live with the Lions attacking play from the start. Second half Marske changed things and made more of a contest of it. The lions battled on and ran out worthy winners. Enjoyed my first visit to Marske nice friendly club and a good atmosphere. Onto the next one. Onwards and upwards.

One of the best away days I’ve had yesterday at marske. Top performance, our fans were outstanding and the perfect response from Hyde. However all the other teams around us are also winning so we just need to keep going. Our next 5: FC away (1 point predicted) Stafford home (must take 3) Matlock away (between 1-3) Warrington away (toughest game out then all, happy with 1) Lancaster home (all 3) I think that’s what we need to be looking at minimally if we are to reach the play offs. Some really tough games in that period but 10 points is what should be the minimal goal. Let’s see what happens 💪

Guiseley were good value for the three points yesterday and the winning margin should have been greater than two goals. On a bumpy playing surface and with the stiff breeze behind them Guiseley totally dominated the first half with Marske struggling to cope with our high tempo pressing game. Goals from Ible and debutant Abadaki provided a two goal cushion at half time and had Chippendale and Whitham efforts which hit the woodwork gone in it would have been four up at the break. Marske competed much better physically in the second half and had the wind behind them and having pulled one back they had a 15 minute spell which could have yielded an equaliser. Instead, Smith’s free kick from the right which evaded everyone ended up in the net to restore the two goal cushion and when the Marske keeper spilled Whitham’s shot Whelan was on hand to tap in the loose ball. Sloppy Guiseley defending allowed Adam Boyes to pull a goal back just before the end. Abadaki made a good debut and looked sharp down the right - he became the 45th player used this season in league and cup (excluding County Cup and unused substitutes). Only 21 of those players are still at Guiseley and some of them are out on loan, giving an indication of the extent of squad change throughout this season so far. First time we have scored four away from home in the league since Blyth Spartans in August 2019. That’s obviously welcome and boosts confidence but from my viewpoint three were gifted by the Marske defence and I suspect the team will have to play much better on Tuesday against FCUM to come home with all the points.
I think we need 30 more points from the remaining 15 matches to guarantee a play off spot, ie average of two points per game or equivalent to winning two thirds of the remaining matches. For me that means being near perfect at home from 7 games and at least three wins from 8 away matches. Possible but not easy. Since Phillips appointment we have averaged 2.25 points per game over 8 matches. So we just need to keep that going over the remaining 15! Also, we have no matches against the current top 3, Matlock for example have got 4, Warrington 3, Radcliffe 3. The number of tight matches and teams involved in the playoff chase may also mean that fewer than 70 points will be needed to finish 5th. So anything is possible - to coin a phrase we need to take it one game at at time!!

A good day out and result and must echo what others have said about the friendliness of everyone at Marske, thank you your a credit to the league. Also a mention about our young supporters and how well behaved and good humoured they all were. I’ll put that down to making Arthur King of the Kop.

Still don’t understand how the keeper spilled it quite so far for our fourth.
The highlights make it look more even than it felt!
