I found myself driving home from Prescot today with a strange sense of dissatisfaction - odd when I had witnessed us win and score six goals away from home. However, I didn't think we played very well today. Analysis of the game can be split into thirds. For the first half hour I thought we were average - most of the game was played in the Prescot half and we looked comfortable enough, although there were too many stray passes and the movement wasn't great, so we didn't carry much goalscoring threat. Then in a 26 minute period either side of half time we scored six goals and could have had more.
Once Ryan Crossley had grabbed the first, a header from a Whitehouse free kick, Prescot seemed to loose heart and we started playing with much more verve and confidence, the passing and movement improved and we tore Prescot to shreds. Pick of the goals for me were Whitehouse's long range effort which found the top corner and Dave Merris's tap in which ended a tremendous incisive passing move involving half the Guiseley team.
Then, on the hour, Adam Muller (who was once again superb) and Ryan Crossley were replaced and this coincided with the team seemingly falling apart. No quarrel from me on the substitutions (which I think were tactical, although Crossley may have had a knock - maybe Wayne can tell us), after all we were six goals to the good, but following the changes we seemed to lose concentration, Prescot, to their credit, found new heart and energy and suddenly we were second to every ball, players stopped competing fully and we conceded three sloppy goals (and it could have been more) in 20 minutes - which was very dissappointing.
Although they never gave up, Prescot were a poor side and there only ever looked like being one winner today. We need to start playing for 90 minutes the way we played for 30 this afternoon. Repeats of the last half hour's performance will prove to be very expensive when we play the better teams in this League and I'm sure that players and management know this better then I do. Hopefully Wayne will give us his perspective on the afternoon at some stage.
I can't possibly finish on a negative note - three wins out of three is a perfect start and being the only team in the entire Unibond League with a 100% record and on top of the League is a great place to be - congratulations to Steve, Wayne and the players. In the two games I've seen this season we have played very well in patches and I've seen enough to believe that we have a strong squad and the players to mount a serious challenge this season. As the team plays more matches I'm sure we can find the consistency that we will need to be successful. Looking forward to Matlock at home on Monday.

Think most of us at the game share your feelings cdp. We went to sleep, started doing long ball forward when James came on,Crooks started to tire and it showed and Crossley going off messed up defence. Glad I wasn't in the dressing room at the end think the boss agrees with us.

Excellent as usual CDP, but if i may make a comment regarding todays game. At 6-0 we were cruising, and Prescots first goal was a well taken gift due to a poor attempted clearance. My point is we didn't learn from this and the entire Guiseley team with the exception of the back three were in Prescots half, when a poor pass (no names not pointing fingers) was intercepted and they broke clear. Their third was virtually the same, a long 'hoof' upfield and a resultant 1 on 1 (Yeah okay, sorry about the earlier error, they didn't have an extra 30 players !!!!) with our keeper. (I really must look this word up) very, very lucky to stay on the pitch, but a penalty pulls the score back to 3 - 6. My point is, it was as if the forwards and midfield wanted a piece of the action, their name on the score sheet, and any discipline went out of the window, along with any thought of helping the back three to defend.. Still, three from three, and still not playing at our full potential, dare i say God help the opposition when it comes together. Well done to Steve, Wayne and the boys, but please, no more 'gung ho' play, I'm not in the first throws of youth, and my heart cant stand to many games like this.

Their third was virtually the same, a long 'hoof' upfield and a resultant 1 on 41 with our keeper. Prescot sneaked an extra 30 players on? That'd explain a lot!

I know. It's asking a lot of even a team like ours, isn't it? Don't you feel that sometimes some supporters expect a bit too much?...

Conceding 3 goals today has left me feeling a little flat and has took the gloss off what was for an hour a fantastic performance on a pitch which was very difficult and that is being kind.We got very sloppy and completely lost our shape for 25 mins which is crazy when you are 6-0 up and coasting.Taking off 2 players for no other reason than to keep them fresh for Monday shouldnt cause the problems it did.We stopped working hard, gifted them a first goal gave the ball away 70 yards from our goal with 6 men bombing forward and a third from a hoof up the pitch. We must and will improve without the ball but on a positive note we are top of the league without in my opinion playing to our full potential.Being top at this stage doesnt mean much but it does give us a good platform to build on and we now need to move on to Monday and play as well in possesion if not better and work harder when were not, obviously with the same result.

But how many times have we seen teams, pro semi and amateur, race into a similar lead, then get a serous scare by the end, for whatever reason but essentially easing off too much. Lots I would imagine. Games like this where one side amasses a big lead don't ever seem to do anybody any favours, apart from gaining the three points of course. Probably the heart instead of the head tok over in this somewhat strange match and again would suggest the only people who can/will learn from it is the management team. Perhaps its just one of those matches you have to put to bed quickly without dwelling on it and move on.
Matlock on Monday won't be easy. They never are and will certainly fight their corner to the end. Whilst they have had an indifferent start they, like all others now, will want to kick-start their season by toppling the new league leaders in their own back yard.

Haven't we had similar starts to the last two seasons, got club of the month awards and then gone down hill until November when there have been panic change of management. Please let this be 3rd time lucky and keep it going. Well done for a great start team, keep up the good work, you can do it.

Come on people; top of th league, put six past the opposition away from home and we still aren't playing to our full potential. What more do we want with just three games played?
