A late defeat at the end of a battling performance but in truth the better team took the points at the end of this one. Rylands had two early chances but Mason was there to deny Adams and Oppong. The game settled down after that but we had a brilliant chance to go in front when Cassidy flicked on for Assenso but he could only prod the ball over. Whelan shot straight at Pilling but it was the hosts who were to open the scoring. Rylands won a free kick inside our own half but Duxbury hit it straight into the top corner leaving Mason on the floor. A goal right out of the Rylands blue but we went up the other end and came close through Smales-Braithwaite. The second half started in a similar pattern to the first with the hosts on top. We had a great chance to equalise through Bakkor who only just reached Murphy’s cross but his effort trickled wide. Smales-Braithwaite came close from a free kick but it should have been a penalty as Murphy was hacked to the floor inside the box. Five minutes later though we were level when Smales-Braithwaite’s free kick went straight in when it looked like Cassidy would head it goalwards. It became quite an exciting game at this point but it was the hosts who won it through Touray’s exquisite finish. We move on to Belper at home on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

5 points from our last 6 games means the season is over.
Lowest Saturday home crowd v Gainsborough and less than 30 travelling supporters today says the season can’t end soon enough and already has for many.

Lacklustre first half performance and similar at the start of the second. Finally got going after 70 minutes and looked capable of winning it after we had equalised but then we let Rylands grab the winner. Can't wait for this season to finish.

Although the season is peetering out Id say after the past few years id rather be in this position than where we have been! Even our last year in National League we were down well before the season ends. Id have taken mid table and a year of re grouping at the start of the year. The management team seem to be thinking ahead for next season already. Maybe the remaining games will allow the team and managers to play with freedom and experiment before a seroius promotion push next year. Lets hope Lewis has a speedy recovery and can be back playing next year!

Have to say I’m with latecomer on this one. As disappointing as it is to miss out on the play offs, give me comfortable mid table over a relegation scrap any day. The season will be over in a little over a months time and then there’ll be no real football for absolutely ages. With the jeopardy gone, I shall be enjoying every last drop of this season, and looking forward to the next.

I only know the result of yesterday’s game, but it would seem GAFC players have little more than pride to play for in the remaining games. That, and making sure the manager wants to hold on to them and keep them in his plans, it would seem. Thus, in the last home games, I hope to see the players picked giving their best and perhaps some new ideas in terms of player formation/tactics etc. it’s all really got to be about preparation for 2023/24 now, I think.

Got to agree with others that although play-off's are out-of-sight particularly after Gainsboro's win last night a top half finish is still a strong possibility we should be aiming for if not top 10.
I would be happy with that after recent relegation battles season after season.
