With this being a local derby (but also a pre-season friendly) I was wondering if this will be a ‘segregated’ game. These friendlies don’t usually attract big crowds but derby games can be the exception. I am unsure. Does anyone know?

I'd be surprised, the league games aren't usually all that busy or noisy. (Unless they've acquired a huge following I don't know of since our relegation)

Can't remember a Guiseley v Farsley game ever being segregated home or away. Usual good natured banter between fans but very rarely anything more than that. And this being a friendly, I'd expect being able to watch each half of the game from each end as usual.

Guiseley v Farsley Celtic (Sat. 29/07/23 Pre-season friendly) On a pleasant summer’s afternoon, Guiseley, resplendent in their new purple away strip, played out an entertaining 1-1 draw v Farsley in their usual home green-white hooped shirts, green shorts/socks. The match overall was fairly even, with the greens having the better of the first half and the Lions equalising (Kallan Murphy on as a sub) in the second 45 mins. and almost getting the win, by putting the ball in the net a second time. The home team looked better in that final 45 mins, but the ‘second goal’ was sadly chalked off, for an infringement. For a friendly, it was quite strongly contested at times, with some tough challenges and even some bad feeling and ‘handbags’ at times. But, Guiseley showed some good play and the new players are beginning to gradually fit in well. Trialist ‘A’ (no 20) looked a tricky little player at times who could add something to the squad. Slightly disappointing to lose the pre-season friendlies’ 100% record, but on the evidence here, things are going in the right direction, in preparation for that all-important first league game of the 2023/24 season which is rapidly coming into view.

Agreed, some promising signs again. Fairly competitive by friendly standards. Their manager set the tone for that with the bizarre time wasting in the first half!
A good side to test against - they’ll be lower table in the division above - and we didn’t look out of our depth.
Think we need to get a back three settled in if injuries allow, which I suppose they won’t, and I guess we need to decide whether our keeper is going to be the one we signed or one of the more recent trialists.

Another good friendly at Nethermoor today and perhaps we should feel a little unlucky to have only have come out of it with a draw. The first half was quite even but it was Farsley who took the lead with an impressive free kick which cannoned in off of the post from a narrow angle. We had chances but couldn't quote force the ball over the line to equalise but we stayed relatively tight at the back. The second half felt much more open and as if there was points resting on the game, neither side wanted to lose. It was sub Kallan Murphy who found the equaliser with a well taken finish at the end of a good Lions move. We had a glorious opportunity to go ahead for the first time but Valsau's shot flew high and wide. This came after Reece Kendall's looping header which was ruled out. Then with a few minutes left Trialist B hit a rasping shot off of the corner of post and bar, it would have been an excellent finish from the forward. Well played Guiseley! Onto a trip to Avro on Monday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Another good workout for Guiseley. Didn’t look out of place against a team from the league above again. Think Guiseley had the better of the chances and with a bit more composure we could have won by a couple of goals. Bit bewildered with the goalkeeper situation surprised to see Brad Wade in goal. Onwards and upwards.

Another good performance Thought we matched Spenymoor and were as good if not better Vs S’boro and Farsley Think Tongue & Platt look terrific signing and will bring grit and fight to the team. Nice to see the Irish boys and Chips named rather playing as triallists No idea what is going on with the Keeper but doesn’t feel like Taberner will be No 1 Vs Hyde

This year, as opposed to previous pre-seasons, Bradford City and Leeds United have not been amongst the ‘friendly’ opponents. This has meant that the larger crowds for those two games have been lost, but perhaps elsewhere, the Lions have gained. For instead, matches were arranged against teams a step above GAFC, in which they not only matched their opponents but did very well, in winning the games or being unbeaten. Thus, this has given the Nethermoor side very good preparation for a promotion push this year. (Though, of course, it would have been good to have had bigger crowds at those home games!)
Another point: Yesterday the Lions played in their new purple away strip. Yet, in the club shop no sizes above ‘L’ were available to purchase. In a home match, where the home team were (unusually) displaying the new away strip, surely there was no better chance to sell further away shirts, and this was an opportunity missed, on a warm sunny day too! It appears, that most of the bigger sizes were sold out on previous occasions-many people have to go a size or two bigger nowadays because the shirts are ‘tighter’ for each size. But, the manufacturers could have helped by resupplying these bigger shirts, if they’d been told (suitably in advance), they would be required for this game, couldn’t they?!!!

Speaking to James in the Shop, this was because the delivery (of larger sizes) didn’t come through in time. Agree though, that the Purple top is a real winner and yes a size larger than normal is required 🙈
