My first match of pre-season, a very local one for me so was happy to see this on the fixture list….
It took a while for Guiseley to get going but thought we generally moved the ball around well and looked well organised at the back- should hopefully be difficult for teams to break us down this season.
Thought Tongue looked very useful and scored through an excellent strike. I can see why Phillips has made him captain, he was extremely vocal throughout the match.
The second half featured a bizarre sequence of events where Jack Dyche (I think?) was sent off, before seemingly being reinstated by the referee, then told to leave the field again.
I suspect Phillips is not convinced about Danny Taberner (unless he is injured?) as Brad Wade started in goal again and Hagie Damba made an appearance in the second half. I would be fine with Wade being signed, thought he looked very good the first time round he played for us.
Although we seem to have a collection of competent midfielders, we do seem to be lacking up front- Kallan Murphy was hardly prolific last season and Denton and Sorhaindo didn’t look entirely convincing yesterday, but I suppose time should tell.
Additionally probably the best hot chocolate I have had in a football ground.

Another good win last night to continue a positive pre-season. The game didn't have much in it and it was certainly a wet night on the North West with heavy showers throughout. The first real 'chance' resulted in the opening goal, Liam Tongue firing in from 30 yards out leaving Shenton stranded as he watched it fly into the top corner. A bolt from the blue, an excellent finish from Tongue. The rest of the half was fairly evenly matched with little in terms of chances. The second half saw both sides make a flurry of subs but it was midway through the half where confusion reigned. Much to the surprise of the crowd the referee appeared to show two red cards, one to Conway after a clash of heads before sending Dyche off around five minutes after the first card. When the game resumed both players were still on the pitch only for the ref to then stop play where again there seemed to be a few confused heads. We added our second though through Valsau, who came on for Dyche, when he poked past an advancing Shenton to double our lead. That was that, despite the lengthy stoppage the ref blew for full time early. Well played Guiseley! Onto Brighouse Town away on Saturday for our final friendly. Come on Guiseley! AB

I think we’d like you to expand on why it’s the ‘weirdest’ ground you’ve ever been on, John. And if it was partly because of a few of the ‘local characters’, I’m sure we’d like to know if it even tops Frickley!

Nothing to do with the local characters more the configuration of the facilities with the food counter being down the players tunnel and then up on to a gantry flanked by two steps of steep stairs. I only got a coffee but taversing the stairs with hot food looks potentially dangerous to me. Then there is the media tower purched on the halfwayline which looks like something out of Stalagluft 14.
