What a match to choose as my first of the season! A ragged and complacent performance. I think the team need to be reminded of two fundamentals of the game (though they may be cliches)
1. You need to earn the right to play by matching the opposition for commitment and movement, rather than, for example, losing challenges, especially aerial challenges, all over the park. 2. Short passes can be as aimless as long passes, and more dangerous. As Bob Paisley put it, 'It's not about the short ball; it's not about the long ball; it's about the right ball.
The only player to emerge with credit was Brown. Sorry to be negative: any team can have a bad day, but the players' approach looked all wrong today,

Not a fluid performance today & it didn't help losing your captain in the first 15 mins either. We just didn't seem to be on the same wavelength with each other.
To be fair Matlock hustled & bustled all day never giving us time without doing a great deal until they scored soon after the break. Then Guiseley played the best football of the match for 10 mins & scored a deserved equaliser.
Unfortunately the "foot seemed to be taken off the pedal" & in the end we survived a last minute scare when MT hit the bar from a free kick.
Thought the officials (yes I've started already), were very poor today. 3 times Muller was flagged offside when clearly he was not. The ref seemed to see plenty of white shirt infringements, whereas, obviously MT's green shirts blended into the grass those, making their numerous shirt tugs invisible!
At least we played poor but still are unbeaten & top of the league, so onwards we go & Witton next Sat, we will need to play better against them.

a tale of 2 halves i thought the first half was awful littered with mistakes the second with the introduction of brownie we looked a different outfit.still work to do but we are still unbeaten and playing nowhere near our potential.we are a skillful outfit with the ball on the floor but still continue to play the high ball all the time instead of mixing it up.

This was my first match of the season, so I don't know what his form has been like but Crooks seems to me like he is in the team based purely on the fact he has past league experience. He seems very unfit and disinterested in the game generally. He stood around in the centre of the pitch managed not to make a meaningful tackle or header, but seemed all to keen to take all the set pieces. We were greatly improved after he left the field. We need to get the ball down and use the wings and not simply launch long balls over the top which was the case in the first half. We need lads who have the fitness, form and desire to play for Guiseley and not people relying on former glories to maintain their position. I made be harsh he could have been amazing at the start of the season but I honest can't see how.

Today we were poor but its the start of the season and we have played twice in three days were unbeaten (just) but i agree with (slatch) crooks is living on his past, everyone i spoke to at the game blames the defence but you attack as a team and defend as a team. The space between the defence the midfield and the attack was too big today and when we broke forward we looked good in patches but time and time again the midfield didn't get back and do the ugly things and i think today we lost the midfield battle and in this league more than most you have to earn the right to play.I just hope Saturday we get back to basics and not think we can turn up and expect to win come on boys lets show against witton that we want it more than them !!!!!!!!

Do Slatch and Superstew think, therefore, that Crooks is the new Beckham?

I don't think Lee Crooks (who made the 2 best passes of the match) or anybody else should be made the scapegoat - it was a very ppor team performance from a team full of talented players who didn't produce today. Even today, to be fair to the management team, you could see that the players brought in to replace those released last season have more porential (with the exception of the goalkeeper). The early results suggest that if the team find the real application that was missing today to go with the ability, they will go far.

Doubt if Lee Crooks's critics were at the two away games, where he stood head and shoulders above and was at the heart of everything.
As for using the wings, with the amended formation there were rarely any wings to use, Lloyd and Merris being occupied on defensive duties. How's Alex Callery progressing?
I'd suggest that if three central defenders is to be the regular starting formation we need to consider putting Danny Husband on the bench in order to avoid too much disruption.
Up front, James doesn't appear fully fit yet, and hasn't had enough games to build up a partnership with Adam Muller. David Brown's always worth a game, not least for his willingness to chase down seemingly lost causes.
Anyway, not a bad set of results for us today; let's make sure we get it sorted for Saturday.

Can only judge what i see Otleybard and today crooks himself would probably admit he was off the pace playing his position you need to be very fit and for me he lacks fitness not argueing about his quality he is a good passer of the ball and has good vision.

Hey Adam, I don't think Lee Crookes is too tubby to be a footballer, it's just that all the others are very slim and he's just 'stocky'. He's about the best passer of a ball in the club - and, anyway, I can still hit a killer ball and I'm aboout 14 stone...Mind you, that's on the Playstation, but you still need an 'eye' for a pass whether it's on a computer or on the field!... Anyway, Ads, I 4't U were off the 4'um on your jollies 4 about 5 days?..

Look ,every body chill out, alright we are not fireing on all cylinders yet,and i know deep down you all want Guiseley to win and play well every game, who doesn't? But in reality it just doesn't happen!!!I know your probably sick of me praising the team, but in reality moaning as a negative effect ,trust me!! Look at the matches so far...Nobody ,is running away with it,everybody is beating each other and I'm sure will continue for some time. Before the season started would you have settled 10 points out of 12 ?Exactly who wouldnt..Matlock to there credit came with a game plan ..Defend at all costs (first45 mins anyway)4-5-1 ,we just could not break them down and in turn frustrated us, which in turn, gave them selfs confidence!!Look theres gonna be lots of twists and turns in the coming weeks, all I'm saying is please be patient , you never know we might just come good,in fact very good....................................................................

Good post, boselecta. Some very good points. We'll be OK, and we'd have taken this if it had been offered - Come on Guiseley!

Fair points, Boselecta - I agree there's plenty to be positive and optimistic about, but only if we put in the hard yards to match the opposition before bringing superior skill to bear. btw I didn't think Matlock were overly defensive; they really dominated some periods of the game, especially the first 20, and made as many chances as we did if not more,
