Lge: Lancaster City 2 v GUISELEY 2 (HT 0-2)
Based on the 3-0 win for City in midweek, over Macclesfield, this might, without any other info., appear a good result. But, leading by two goals at half time, when the commentator on Guiseley radio said, “This has been the best 45 minutes for Guiseley of the season so far,” this has to go down, ultimately as a disappointment. Indeed at the end of the game, manager Paul Philips threw his water bottle to the ground in frustration. (And maybe disgust, because it seems the Lions were denied a stone wall penalty!) Yet, though the Lions had taken a 0-2 lead to half time, the co-commentator counselled caution, as City had had quite a few chances in that first half too. Fifteen minutes into the second half it was 1-2 and then, with but five minutes of normal time left, the Lions who had been under heavy pressure (the commentator said, “There’s still one chance in this game and I’ve an awful feeling where it’s going!”) conceded the equaliser. A change of goalkeeper and Tom Denton losing his place in the side, saw the manager shaking things up with Kallan Murphy, on from the start. He had a good game and ‘put himself about’ as usual. (Denton later came on near the end of the game but not for Murphy-it was Joe Stacey!) Ultimately, this was a better performance than Tuesday (it wouldn’t have taken much though) and an away point too-never to be sneezed at. But, Guiseley’s defensive frailty, seems to continue. On to the BPA match on Monday! Like Lancaster last Tuesday, they also registered a decisive win today! Maybe, that’s a ‘good omen’ for the Lions, if you believe in such things!

Played well first half getting it on the ground and stretching Lancaster’s defence albeit the hosts missed some guilt edged chances on the break.
Didn’t really turn up for the second half and in the end happy to get a point which we would have taken at kick off.
3 points v BPA on Monday and all will be well.

A good start to the game which sadly faded away in the second half but both sides missed some guilt edged opportunities to score more in the opening 45. Kendall, Murphy and Ible all had chances but Mendes pulled off a couple of good stops. He then saved Pratt's shot from a tight angle well but a couple of minutes later Whelan found a way past the man in orange. Stacey picked out Whelan who found his spot into the bottom corner with a well taken finish. Lancaster should really have been 2-1 up five minutes after our opener, Carroll heat a free header well wide of goal and he then missed an open net after a cross found him unmarked at the back post. Five minutes later he rued those missed chances when Pratt doubled our lead with an excellent goal, Mendes at full stretch couldn't stop that one from going in. Mendes then showed excellent reactions when Barnes nearly fired into his own goal from close range but somehow the keeper got across to make the save. Carroll then had another glorious chance, the ball bundled around the box and he fired over again with the goal wide open in front of him. The second half got off to a cagey start but we should have had a penalty when Stacey was hacked down. Lancaster halved our lead 10 minutes into the half when Sam Bailey's cross went straight in, Battersby was caught in two minds with plenty of attackers waiting to pounce. Lancaster were dominating from here as we offered next to nothing going forward. Brown had to make an excellent last ditch block to stop Holland-Wilkinson from equalising. With seven minutes left the equaliser came, Charlie Bailey headed home from close range leaving Battersby with no chance. The game played out with Lancaster looking the most likely of taking the points but we stood strong. Well played Guiseley! Onto Bradford (Park Avenue) at home on Monday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Certainly couldn't knock the commitment from the team today and it was obvious from the patterns of play that they at least knew each other. A good start for Buckingham and Devine different class, hope his withdrawal was to leave something in reserve for Monday a tough game awaits against BPA. Anyone any idea whereabouts of Gabriel Johnson missed today.

According to my fitbit watch: Your heart rate rose to over 120bpm between 4.42 and 4.52 while you appeared to be inactive. It understands nothing about watching Guiseley

Disappointing result in the end. Just felt that with release balls to relieve the pressure in the second half we might have resorted to putting Essel on. He’s come on loan but reluctant to play him but given the 2nd half pressure it might have helped our back line.
Pity we didn’t hang on but much better than watching Tuesday so light at the end of the tunnel.

Didn't go today but its the same old same old, why can we only play for 45 minutes? I was at Horbury Town keeping an eye on the X feed and and even though we went in two goals to the good at the break I'm left wondering if we'll concede 2 or 3 in the second half. Ultimately I think we have the players but management nous, tactics and constant changes to the starting line up are doing us no favours. For instance why was Tom Denton on the bench today when he's been out most effective player so far and was Gabriel Johnson injured or just dropped?

I like Denton but we played much more football today without launching it long. It was a much better watch. The defensive line looks fragile still and needs some work. Devine was excellent on his debut.

Positives: - An encouraging first half performance, arguably aided by the decision to not start Denton which resulted in more patient build up play- thought Tom Pratt and Joe Stacey in particular were great - For once, it was us who were more clinical in front of goal, with Lancaster wasting a number of decent chances before half time - Devine looked excellent whilst Battersby seemed solid and made a crucial save at 0-0 early in the 1st half - It is a point away from home against a well organised Lancaster side, who I would expect to finish in the top half
Negatives: - Feels like two points dropped unfortunately - Easy to say when you squander a 2-0 lead but game management left a lot to be desired, we looked panicky for most of the 2nd half and it seemed inevitable that Lancaster would pull back - Struggles away from home continue, now seven away league matches without a win - Thats now 19 players used already this season five matches in, appreciate management had their hand forced on a couple but already worrying signs in terms of establishing a settled team

Devine was excellent on his debut. I think what bothers me about this is that Denton is a clever footballer who makes first time passes that most other players can’t make that quickly. So if we drop him for better buildup play, it’s because the team can’t help themselves from putting it onto his head, not because he’s unwilling to use his feet.

I think he may have been rested with a view to tomorrow. We need him defensively for set pieces on the evidence of yesterday. I am not sure our defenders are 'shrinking violets' but in the absence of CMW there is a lack of physical presence
