Gainsborough Trinity 1 v GUISELEY 3 : FA Trophy -Sat. 7 October
Unable to hear full match commentary-due to circumstances- apart from the commentator’s final comments which included the phrase, “Brilliant performance from the Lions today!” which is good to hear. The result is certainly emphatic and gets GAFC through to the next round comfortably. Since these two teams are ‘next door’ to one another, in league placings, it was a good ‘match’ before the action started. And, after the demolition of Ilkley in midweek, in terms of performance and goals, the Lions certainly had their ‘shooting boots’ on in this game. Next up, is another league game v Atherton on Tuesday, which will hopefully see the run continue. It is another that is highly winnable, based on league placings.

It was pointed out to me that in the last week alone I have seen a Guiseley team score 20 (TWENTY) goals. Not many weeks like that about.

Great performance today. We played to our strengths and took the game to Gainsborough. We looked comfortable throughout. Organised out of possession and dangerous when wide. Great contributions from so many players today. Denton won every header in both boxes, Murphy’s goal was excellent, Johnson a constant threat, Stacey brilliant down the left, Walker and Ible excellent, I could go on. Contributions all over the pitch.
Liam Tongue and Martin Foster have done a great job. I’m sure Liam will make a great manager in future but he also has a huge amount amount to offer on the pitch before then. He has made a huge contribution in the interim though and given time for the next manager appointment to be the right one. Hopefully the next manager is one that will be here for a number of years and gets us back to the North as a minimum.

An excellent win from the Lions today, we controlled the game and fully deserved our goals. We were clinical in our finishing too and but for a strong start from the hosts we were the better side across the first 45. Gainsborough did nearly take an early lead through Southwell but Battersby saved well with his feet before the loose ball was cleared off the line by Walker. Then up the other end a deep cross found Denton who headed to Ible before the captain got enough on his header to beat former Lion Luke Jackson in the home goal. A scrappy 15 minutes followed in which Johnson went close but Murphy made it two just before the twenty minute mark. Johnson worked hard to keep the ball in on the left and picked out Murphy brilliantly and the Irish forward powered a header past Jackson to double our lead, a nice well worked goal. Denton nearly added a third five minutes later but his header dropped just wide of the mark. In the final few minutes of the half Battersby denied Howe on two occasions, the first to intercept a long ball forward but the home stroked blocked his clearance, the keeper then closed down the number 10 and blocked his shot with his chest with the goal open behind him. The second half started with us on top but a couple of corners came to nothing. Murphy was brought down in the box 12 minutes into the half and Denton stepped up to send Jackson the wrong way from the spot. Perhaps a soft penalty but it was well taken by Denton to add a bigger buffer. Four minutes later Southwell nearly pulled one back but for heroics from Battersby, the keeper dashed across his line to save the former Lion's header. The game sort of petered out from here but Southwell did score with one of the last kicks of the game with a well taken finish right into the top corner. Whilst it may have spoiled a clean sheet it didn't tarnish a good afternoon's work and result for the Lions. Probably as comfortable as it gets as Gainsborough barely threatened all afternoon and there were good performances all over the pitch. Well played lads. Let's take this into Tuesday night against Atherton Collieries. Come on Guiseley! AB

Really good performance by The Lions who played with confidence and passion.
Gainsborough never got started in a surprisingly very comfortable win.
Good to see the players come over at the end and shake hands with the small number of dedicated supporters who had travelled to Lincolnshire.

Great performance from the lads - they were head and shoulders above Gainsborough yesterday and looked comfortable for the entire match. Not been a fan of punting balls into Denton this season but it worked well today.
Need to follow this up with another win on Tuesday now.
