It’s always interesting to hear the view of someone on the ‘other side’ giving their opinion after watching the same game, you’ve watched. There are (usually?!!) some aspects of agreement, but often a number of areas of disagreement and of course both sides are obviously biased to some extent, though they may insist they’re not!. I thought the penalty from my vantage point looked a reasonable call, but have to admit with VAR and replays from numerous angles for penalties given on TV live screened matches, I can get it wrong. I certainly wondered why the Atherton lad had chosen to challenge as he did when our player was taking the ball in a direction away from goal, but that’s a different point. But, I do agree AC were unfortunate to go into half time a goal behind, when it seemed they would be starting the second 45 minutes at 2-2. That second half might have been quite different from that starting point-I thought it was a bit disappointing compared to the first half which was exciting. I would have liked to have heard the manager’s response to being asked about the red card. That was certainly a self-inflicted bit of harm done to his own team. And, if as he says, the manager wants to start on a ‘good run’ it will have to be without the services of one of his better players!

Very entertaining game last night. Started really well and were all over a young Colls side but then suddenly it’s back to 2-2.
Charitable penalty but it was crucial to go in 3-2 up and thought we saw it out well.
The players seem to be playing with a bit more freedom and enjoying it.
Really looking forward to Saturday which hasn’t always been the case this season.

It was the worst challenge I have ever seen and there is no comment?

The worst tackle I personally witnessed at a football match (plus resulting damage) was in 1997, Bradford City v Huddersfield Town. Here, HT’s Kevin Gray in a sliding tackle broke BC striker, Gordon Watson’s leg in two places. From my vantage point, you could tell his leg had been broken at the time, before the news later emerged. Watson’s career was effectively destroyed by this. Watson later sued Gray and the former was awarded £50,000 damages. (Watson had asked for £100,000. NB: £50,000 in 1997 is equivalent to over £112,000 today.) The judge also said Gray should have been sent off-he was only shown a yellow card. That tackle on Kallan Murphy was also awful.

On the matter of the Atherton manager not being asked to comment on his own player’s dangerous, reckless challenge resulting in a red card, isn’t this a prime example of a manager being given an ‘easy ride’ by an interviewer?

In my defence I got PPs opinions on all 4 red cards this season: Chippy and Reece yes;Tom and Ollie no. 'What was your view on the red card?'is not actually a difficult question to ask.

It must have been for this interviewer unless he forgot to mention it! (Which is what you yourself highlighted by writing, “…worst challenge I have ever seen and no comment?” ) All the other main aspects of the match were covered.

Perhaps he wasn’t asked because it was blindingly obvious there was no way to defend it. Apart from a few people on the Atherton side who must have their blinkers on, it was the very definition of a red card - full pelt, studs up, from behind. It bordered on assault!
