Another decent performance and comfortable win.
We are starting to build momentum and belief and the players are expressing themselves in a way they didn’t earlier in the season.
Well done to Liam Tongue and the players for lifting the spirits amongst supporters.
Ilkeston here we come!

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Not a perfect performance but one with more confidence than I’ve seen for a long time. I’m enjoying the transition Prince is trying to make from ball winner to ball player. It’s not complete yet but it’s promising.
I’m starting more clearly to be able to see the puzzles the next manager has to solve…
The squad is built for 3-5-2 and we must find a way to keep Denton and Johnson up front together, not maroon the latter out on the wing which dilutes the impact of both.
But there are teams in this division who’ll rip through our midfield if we play 4-4-2 (almost 4-2-4 at times) like today.
We need to get Joe Stacey or CMW in a position to play full matches every week, otherwise we need another specialist in one of their positions while Kendall covers the other.
But those are puzzles for another time. Four wins in a row feels excellent, and Liam deserves a lot of credit for some flashes of excellent football and our visibly improving team morale.

Lge: GUISELEY 2 v STAFFORD RANGERS 0 Saturday 14 Oct. 2023
This match started off as an energetic, lively, entertaining contest, being fairly even in some respects. But, by the time Gabriel Johnson had given the Lions the lead, towards the last part of the first half, Guiseley were taking charge of this game. A second goal early in the second 45 minutes, by Jameel Ible, seemed to seal things and from there, there looked to be only one likely winner. The nos 5 and 6 for Stafford seemed to struggle to deal with Tom Denton and at times the arm locks, half Nelson’s (?) or other wrestling holds (?) were all deployed, but failed to have much effect on the big no.9. Why the ref didn’t intervene was perplexing, but to his credit TD never reacted or lost his cool, though his patience must have been sorely tested. I wouldn’t say Guiseley were on top form here overall, but sometimes you just have to grind out routine wins like this, to be near to where you want to be before the season ends.
The Lions now occupy 12th position in the table, with 16 points. Next opponents, Ilkeston are on 5th, in last place in the promotion play-off zone, with 19 points. They beat Bradford (Park Avenue) 3-0 at the Horsfall Stadium, so next week’s away tie will be a real test for the Guiseley outfit. Nevertheless, things look to be gradually taking shape, players are gelling, and the better teamwork and sheer greater confidence throughout the team is beginning to show. And, this has been paying off and explains why the team is doing better, regardless of the opposition. The formation seems more settled, with players not in and out, with constant changes. Even the list of subs looks more stable! Next week’s match could be a big one, in determining what happens next, but we are definitely in a better place than where we were even just a few short weeks ago!

Midfield virtually non existent most of the first half until a Gabby Johnson opportunist strike gave us the lead on the stroke of halftime. Jameel Ible's second early in the second half settled matters despite a Stafford comeback late in the game. But its another three points that puts us within three points of the play-of places so well done Liam and the guys on another resilient display.

Really good afternoon today. Loved seeing Betty back at the ground. Adie commentating and a 2-0 win. Stafford are better than their league position and pressed well. However, Ollie Battersby’s gloves were untroubled. Lovely. Well done to all and Liam Tongue for handling this situation so we’ll. Roll on the trip to Ilkeston.

Another convincing win for Guiseley - Stafford created little to trouble us. Performances have been noticeably better since Phillips left and we actually look like a proper team again.

Two goals, clean sheet, four wins on the spin and the momentum keeps on rolling. It was important to pick up three points today against a team below us in the table after a good run of wins for us to keep the good feeling going. Stafford did start brightly but Battersby remained untested all afternoon having very little to do though the ball did flash across the face of our goal on a couple of occasions. Belford was the busier of the two keepers but even he only had a few crosses to deal with and little else troubled him. That all changed in the last ten minutes though when Johnson was played through on goal and the number 10 showed his ruthlessness to finish underneath the away stopper. Belford then pulled off an excellent save to deny Ekpolo, the midfielder looked set to get his second goal in three games but the stopper tipped the shot over. The goal in the first half arguably came at the right time but our second goal fell at the perfect moment to kill the game off. Ible finished past Belford into the roof of the net to double our advantage just two minutes into the half. Ible could have had his second of the afternoon shortly after but his shot sailed over the bar, the captain was in a good position to finish. Denton saw an header bounce over as another big chance went begging for the Lions. It nearly proved costly when Stafford flashed two crosses across the face of our goal that just needed a touch. There was a rather bizarre moment when the linesman flagged and Meppen-Walters and a Stafford player thought the game had been stopped. The returning defender picked up the ball with both hands and play was then haulted by the ref who booked Meppen-Walters. It proved to be the last action of the game as we held on to a clean sheet, our first at Nethermoor in the league this season. But the highlight of today had to be the return of Betty Marshall on her birthday. Betty has had a tough few months but it was great to see her back at Nethermoor with a lovely reception before the game and everyone sang happy birthday to her in the clubhouse afterwards which was richly deserved. Happy Birthday Betty! Well played Guiseley! Onto Ilkeston Town away on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Good performance from Guiseley yesterday thought we competed well all over the pitch. Players looked confident and played to our strengths. Atmosphere round the ground much improved hope the winning streak prompts more fans to go to away games on the supporters coach. Onwards and upwards.

Random question - does anyone know what the position is with Laurence Sorhaindo? Was really looking forward to seeing him play in a Guiseley shirt, but he hasn't even been in the squad, despite a relatively successful short term loan. Is he injured at the moment?

Sorhaindo still out injured as far as I know. Thought the first half was a virtual non-event yesreday as both team failed to stamp their authority on the game apart from Gabriels well taken goal. Second hald we applied ourselves far better and the early goal secured the win despite Stafford huffing and puffing towards the end. Think their kit was one of the worst Iv'e seen at Nethermoor especially the goalies strip which did veteran Cameron Belford no favours whatsoever. Match Album available here

Lots of Good Things yesterday. Much needed. I get that Liam doesn’t want to become full time manager at his age, I really do, but we’re on a roll at the moment so there’s a bit of me that doesn’t actually want a new manager to come in and shake things up. The players look so much more relaxed now, playing with much less fear, showing more of what they’re capable of, and demonstrating that actually football doesn’t need to be all that complicated. Right players in the right positions with a clear game plan that they all understand, and the implicit understanding that mistakes made won’t necessarily see you branded a blagger or a coward. There’ll be tougher tests than recent opponents to come of course, but if only I could just bottle this last three games or so…
