Lge: Warrington Rylands 0 v GUISELEY 1 Sat. 4 Nov. 2023
Guiseley pulled off a great win today against one of the division’s current front runners. After Tuesday’s excellent performance when the Lions had every right to feel hard done by, in only gaining an away point, this afternoon they bagged another three away from Nethermoor.
The first half was fairly even, with perhaps Guiseley being slightly the better of the two sides but in the second it was Gabriel Johnson again-what a fine season he is having so far-who bagged the crucial winner. The Guiseley team then had to stand strong from that point on till the end, but-despite the commentary team nervously calling for the ball to be played down to one of the corner flags and pleading with the referee to blow the final whistle-they did so. Warrington Rylands had been unbeaten at home since the beginning of the season. (And they were not the only ‘favourite’ to totter and fall, as Ratcliffe took a 4-0 hammering from Matlock Town.) Thus, Guiseley go up to seventh in the table, with the comforting knowledge they gained seven points from encounters with three very good teams ie Marine, Worksop and Warrington-who would have expected that a few short weeks ago?
We might now be justified in beginning to think the wins under Liam Tongue were not just a case of us mainly beating some mediocre or poor sides, prevailing as we have now against some very good ones. It’s on then to a home dual with Workington, with one eye looking ahead to the eventual arrival of Ratcliffe on 2 December-now not looking quite as invincible as we might have thought previously!

Excellent three points for the Lions today at the end of a professional team performance. The game was entertaining and played in difficult conditions but credit to Rylands's pitch which held up remarkably well given the deluge of rain. We started well and applied pressure from the off with a couple of corners but the home defence cleared the danger from them both. There was some early bookings and arguably Bakkor should have seen red after a late challenge on Brown which was followed a few minutes later by another rash challenge. Despite going for the yellow the ref opted against it and the striker was withdrawn at half time. Battersby had to make the first save of the game from Touray's long range shot. Then a couple of minutes later Johnson shot wide of this mark in our first chance of the afternoon. Then with a third of the game gone Ible saw his cross cleared off the line just in time by a home defender. The final chance of the half went Nsaka who swivelled on the ball and shot at goal but Pilling made a good save. Rylands changed things up at the break and it had a good effect with the home side making a strong start to the half. Pratt had to clear Piggott's shot off the line with Battersby beaten. Then up the other end Pratt nearly broke the deadlock with his curled shot that took a deflection to send it wide then Walker saw an header blocked. Battersby then had to save Hardcastle's low shot with his foot but it was a cracking stop. Then with 20 minutes left came the match winner, Pilling has rushed off his line to intercept a dangerous ball into the box, he clashed with Pratt and Johnson got the ball and lobbed the keeper with the ball dropping into the empty net. An excellent finish! We came close with a couple of headers from Tongue and Kendall but we had to show our mettle at the end of the half with excellent game management. Despite plenty of added time there was no way through for a home side who hadn't lost since opening day. Well played Guiseley! A big win and one that was well deserved. Onto Working at home on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

I *knew* it wasn’t an illusion that we had a decent squad this year. Well done to the lads for once again outperforming our budget and showing us what you’re made of

It's not just the results- though they are important. It's the sense of togetherness on and off the field. That is priceless.

Superb performance today. Committed, we’ll set up. Performances from every player today subs and starting XI. Genuinely starting to believe this year we are contenders for promotion. I don’t think i have felt so positive since 2019/20 - hopefully if my bubble is to be burst it won’t be in the same way!!
In the meantime everyone involved in the turnaround should feel justly proud tonight.

Always said we had the players and that we just needed someone to get the best out of them something that PP failed to do with too many changes in line-ups and tactics. So well done to Liam and now Andy for harnessing that potential and starting to deliver the results. Also listening to Andy I think he 'gets' us and looks like a good choice by our Board, Russ and James.

I think our last two performances today and at Worksop have been our best of the season in terms of skill, team organisation, determination and work ethic. Four points (could easily have been six) from two away games against the better teams in the league is a fantastic effort and we shouldn’t forget the three against Marine where the team also played very well. Absolutely deserved the points today having created the best chances and had good periods of sustained pressure as well as showing grit and determination to withstand a lively Rylands team who at times showed why they were unbeaten in the league since the first day of the season. Every player was excellent today but I thought Gabriel Johnson was the man of the match having led the forward line superbly and run himself into the ground over 90 minutes. Plenty to be positive about at the moment and with one third of the league season completed we are well placed just outside the playoffs.

Fantastic performance yesterday players gave all in testing conditions. Thought Guiseley created the better chances and Gabriel’s finish for the goal was quality. Special mention to the travelling faithful who were class great day out. Onwards and upwards.

So proud of the team performance! Really excited to think we are working our way towards the play offs! Liam Tongue rebuilt a great foundation for our new management team to build on. Post match interviews are (at last) positive and encouraging for players and supporters alike. Feels more like the Guiseley we know and love! COYL🦁

Missed yesterdays game due to a prior commitment with the King and I but thrilled with the result and the feel good vibes around the club again.
A squad that looked committed but void of ideas has been transformed by the change in Management. Well done to all involved in this turnaround. There will be ups and downs ahead but the club finally feels like it is moving forward.
Dare we mention the P word?
Either way I’m certainly 🎶Whistling a Happy Tune. 🎶 today😀

If we can keep key personnel fit, yes, let’s mention the P word. God it feels good to be looking upwards again at last
