Really struggle to see how that is a penalty. Turned his back on the ball, arms by his side and looks to have hit Gabby in the middle of the back. More galling, the referee had a perfect view and their manager said “deliberate 2 hands”. Without stoking the Leeds-Manchester divide too much, their manager is clearly Mancunian #thikaspigsh+t

I’ve seen it broached (in football media) that the penalty should now be dispensed with and replaced in all circumstances by a free kick-either direct/indirect. These days the amount of cheating-diving, simulation, players penalised because their arms/hands are in ‘an abnormal position’ (whatever that means) etc etc is ridiculous. Giving away a penalty for a bad tackle in the area is certainly more serious than a handball where a ball hits a player’s hand/arm (that obviously doesn’t involve a player leaning down/up to touch the ball.) And, as I said, if it’s ball to hand it shouldn’t really be a penalty. It should only be a penalty if it’s very clear the offender used hand/arm to deflect/catch the ball deliberately.ie hand to ball. It would be good if all referees were instructed NOT to give penalties when there’s“reasonable doubt” it was deliberate.” The game would be improved. Too many players in the closing stages of games particularly are looking ‘to go down’ in the area. I’ve even heard pundits on radio/ TV saying, “He was entitled to go down, as he was ‘touched.’ Dreadful attitude, unsporting and detrimental to the sport IMO! Today, too many penalties are often dubious and penalties can be so decisive in games, as the one conceded by GAFC undoubtedly was. The FCUM manager was delighted but the answer of many supporters is usually, “We’ll take it!” Thus, he’s not so different from most fans, when their side gets a dodgy penalty!
