Good win last night. It was great to see a strong team being put out for this competition. In reality its our only chance of a trophy each season so its one we should be aiming to win.

A good win for Guiseley last night having negotiated the challenges of a bumpy pitch, gusty wind, physical opposition and inept referee who made no attempt to punish a series of bad tackles from the home team that would normally have led to a spate of bookings in the first half in particular. Garforth had the better of the first quarter but failed to convert any of the half chances they created. Once Ekpolo had come on as a replacement for Meppen Walters who picked up an injury, more control in midfield was forthcoming and two smart strikes before half time by Liam Tongue settled things down from a Guiseley viewpoint. Once Tongue completed his hat trick after half time with a free kick from outside the box it was effectively game over with half an hour remaining. All fairly straightforward in the end and hopefully, other than Meppen Walters, no injuries picked up ahead of the Christmas and New Year period with four league matches against struggling teams coming up and a chance to get into a playoff position.

Good win last night and three cracking goals! There was a bit of miscommunication so we ended up with two reports, Dave's is on the site, mine is below. The Lions roared into the third round of the West Riding County Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win at Garforth Town as captain Liam Tongue bagged a hat trick. After two postponements the game was finally played on the last Tuesday before Christmas. An arctic wind circled around Wheatley Park which made play difficult at times. The tie could have been very different had Matt Antcliff made more of his opportunity after just three minutes, the number nine was played in behind one on one with Ollie Battersby but shot straight at the former Grimsby Town stopper. The hosts continued their good straight through Charlie Marshall's mazy run but the winger dragged his shot well past the post. Town were having the better of the opening half an hour with Andy Welsh's side struggling to create a meaningful opportunity. That all changed on 37 minutes when Tongue rifled an unstoppable shot in to the top corner from 25 yards out, a stunning strike from the former Hyde United man. Three minutes later Tongue doubled his tally for the evening with a similar goal from the edge of the box to increase our advantage. Tongue was keen for his third and with the half just four minutes old he forced Harry Flatters into a top save, the captain picked up possession thirty yards out and drove at the home defence but he could find a way past the home keeper despite getting plenty of height and power into his shot. He got the hat trick goal his performance deserved less than ten minutes later when he was tripped on the edge of the box. Tongue stopped up to take the setpiece and opted to keep his shot low which beat an at full stretch Flatters to kill off the tie. Both sides rang the changes with K'Marni Miller coming on for his senior debut and Callum Chippendale, Tom Pratt and Tom Denton also introduced. The chances petered out but the 234 strong crowd were kept entertained with in the winter wind. There was a moment of worry at the end when Kallan Murphy was caught on his ankle and spent the final few seconds limping around the pitch ahead of the busy festive schedule. The Lions are back on the road on Saturday for the final game before Christmas in a trip to Basford United. Well played Guiseley! Next up a trip to Basford. Come on Guiseley! AB
