Whitby definitely to blame A decision could have been made on the morning or even the day before looking at the forecast No thought whatsoever to the safety of supporters and players travelling across the NY moors with a forecast of ice and snow And to let folk into the ground and use the clubhouse compounds the error I would like to see Whitby cover the costs of travel for the supporters bus and players when the game is replayed I saw a comment elsewhere re Marske vs Morpeth on NY Day. Took the money of visiting fans for a game they knew had no bearing on their NPL future. Admittedly the monies received will help towards rebuilding the club but the fans even at this level often appear forgotten

Generous gesture from our chairman but can someone tell me if guiseley supporters were given voucher for free entry to rearranged game and what happens if you have a voucher but can't attend.
Isn't taking payment for an event which has a strong possibility of not taking place fraud.

An interesting aside: Bolton's game with Cheltenham was called off on Saturday after a medical emergency with a fan, and Bolton have offered to pay for the Cheltenham supporters' coach for the rearranged match even though the postponement was no fault of their own.

No apology from Whitby but then again that would an admission of guilt. Onwards and upwards.

To be fair, both teams & management wanted the game played & looked like they were prepared to play aware of the "frozen" spots on the pitch. I was told their manager was particularly "forthright" in his opinion to the officials. My amateur opinion was the pitch looked fine, but I would be stood on the terrace not running around on the pitch.
The problem for Whitby is they put out a statement on Twitter (I think) around 1pm saying no pitch inspection was envisaged together with a picture of a groundman marking white lines in a blizzard even though it was most likely parts of their pitch were frozen or hard at least. Surely a visit from a local ref or even their groundman having a chat with the officials would have been a wise move, (but hindsight & all that).

Well, what a farce last night was. The worst thing about all of it is it was totally avoidable. The pitch was frozen at 11am yesterday morning and it was evident when we arrived at just gone 6pm it was still frozen. The ref and officials are put in a difficult position then, they have little option but to give the game the best chance of being on by delaying the final decision. Then for Whitby to blame the officials and the league in a statement with no apology for anyone who made the effort to be there is just astounding and smacks of ignorance.
We have reacted well though with a great statement from James Pickles here:
Gary Douglas has confirmed the club will cover the cost of the Supporters' Club coach for the rearranged game which is an excellent gesture:
So frustrating and annoying for everyone who made the effort to be there from fans, players, staff and directors from both clubs when the whole situation could have been avoided with an earlier inspection. AB

So no full-time refs living north of Leeds? Pretty obvious that the pitch would remain frozen so Whitby should have taken the decision at luchtime and then got the match referee to confirm it as soon as he arrived.

See Whitby managed to call off their scheduled match against Matlock just before midday today due to a waterlogged pitch.

I see Whitby has organised an 8.30am pitch inspection tomorrow for their game with FCUM. Good forward thinking that. Hope they do the same on Tuesday as well.
