A frustrating game at Hurst Cross where we couldn't make some big chances in the game count. We took an early lead when a ball into the box was played across the goal by Murphy leading to Ekpolo who couldn't miss from two yards out after just six minutes. From there we had some big opportunities with Afuye shooting over and hitting the base of the post. Mariette forced Cooper into an excellent save low to his left to push the ball wide. Kendall then had the chance to double the lead from the spot after Murphy was fouled in the area but Cooper again saved well to keep the game within reach. Ashton has their chances too with Battersby pulling off an incredible double save when he looked beaten. They dominated possession but didn't do a lot with it. The second half started off similar with Afuye causing problems and he whipped in a brilliant cross which was just out of reach for Murphy, had he have got a touch it would have been a certain goal. After a good spell of pressure from the hosts they got a penalty when Kendall committed a foul in the box. Byrne sent Battersby the wrong way and finished well to level the scores. The hosts were well on top now but again didn't really create anything meaningful and the game petered out. Onto Whitby away on Tuesday. Come on Guiseley! AB

The pudding of a. pitch made it hard work for both teams.
Time will tell whether this is one point gained or two points dropped but it keeps daylight between us and Ashton.
4 points from Whitby and Morpeth now required to stay in the mix.

What is our success rate at converting penalties? Over the last few seasons (based on watching at home, and listening to commentaries, reading reports etc.), I would guess that it can't be more than 50%. Is this correct? How does this compare to other teams?

Like Tuesday against Ossett we really shoud have killed this game off by halftime given the chances that we created in the frst twenty minutes or so , but instead we give the opponents a chance to get back into the game. If we are to do anything this season we really need to develop that killer instict and finish teams off.

How does this compare to other teams? Happy to be corrected but I make it 4 out of 7 penalties scored in the league so far this season (57%): Scored: v Atherton (won 3-2) v Workington (won 4-3) v Radcliffe x2 (won 3-4) Missed: v Hyde (drew 2-2) v Gainsborough (lost 0-1) v Ashton (drew 1-1) By contrast, I reckon we have conceded 6 penalties, 5 of which were converted.

Thank you. I know life doesn't work like this, but those missed penalties potentially cost us 5 or even 7 points. On Tuesday, 7 of 8 different players converted their chances. There seems to be an irony of sorts in that, but I'm not sure what.
They have coaches for most things -do they have specialist penalty coaches?
