You know, I’ve watched all but one of the pre season friendlies and I’m really still no clearer on how or who we’ll play when the league starts. Seems we’ve been a bit unfortunate with injuries/weddings/pre-booked holidays. I still have faith that Mark and Danny will have a clearer idea. I still think we’ve got a very decent squad of players here who could really do something in this league. I also know you can’t read all that much into friendlies. So while the result tonight looks disappointing I still don’t think we’re anywhere near hitting the panic button.

So while the result tonight looks disappointing I still don’t think we’re anywhere near hitting the panic button. We were playing a full time professional team last night and they hadn’t come here to lose, so I’m still suspending my predictions for this season. All that said, we looked paper thin at the back at times, and that was a bigger worry for me than the actual result. On the plus side, the chips were nice, and reminded me of an unlikely sounding problem with selling chips because of an either/or situation with the floodlights. Whilst this might sound more than a bit gaga, I seem to remember that is was Adam(brid) who shouted the loudest about the fact that we didn’t sell them (chips) and on seeking to find a reason why we didn’t (sell chips) he was told that we could have either chips or we could have floodlights but not both because it would somehow overload the system and dim the lights. Does anyone else remember this, and could anyone else (Adam?) confirm that the recollections are true, even if they’re only a bit true?

I definitely remember Craig telling me that, about ten years ago, but the explanation of how many phases our power supply had was a little above my understanding so I don’t know how it was resolved.

Didn't go last night or Sat due to commitments, but for me, the issue is both at the back & up front. Yes its all pre-season & counts for nothing come Aug 10th, but we have scored 4 goals in 5 games & conceded 13 (if my maths is correct) which is a bit worrying. & v Huddersfield & 4 v Barnsley who both put out string teams is more understandable. But only scoring 4 goals is a worry for me.
I get that certain players have commitments in pre-season, hence B&B can only pick from those available, but still would have expected a few more. We've still got North Ferriby which should be a reasonable test as they're only a league below, so lets see what Sat brings.

Think the Barnsley game was a pre-season too far as we only looked anything like when Jordan Thewlis and Gabby Johnson came on but we should have a full compliment at N Ferriby so maybe we'll see the starting line up for the Workington game?

A tough test last night at Nethermoor, those two quick goals from Leo Farrell really ended the contest before he added a stunning third just a few minutes later. Barnsley thought they were ahead just seven minutes in but the goal was ruled out for offside. Moke's evening came to an early end through injury and just a few moments later the visitors took the lead when Cracknell's clearance struck Farrell and rebounded into the net. Then a few seconds later a neat move from the Tykes found Farrell unmarked two yards out and he couldn't miss doubling his tally for the night. With 23 minutes gone Farrell got his third when a throw-in sat up nicely for him and he finished exquistively with a well taken lob leaving Cracknell stranded. Ollie Brown fired just wide from far out in one of a very few chances for us in the first half. The South Yorkshire side added gloss to the win just five minutes into the second 45 when the visitors' trialist struck calmly past Cracknell after being put through on goal one on one with the stopper. Brown came very close again when he swivelled on the ball and struck a powerful drive, which looked to be heading into the top corner, but Flavell got a strong hand to it. Thewlis nearly pulled one back too but he couldn't get enough power on his volleyed effort. That brought to an end the final home friendly of the campaign. Next up a trp to North Ferriby on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB
