A much improved performance from the Lions today but Macclesfield took full advantage of the chances they created to take the points. It was the hosts who had the early chances, Rooney hit the post and Cracknell was forced into a couple of easy saves. With 25 minutes on the clock the Lions were in front, Ekpolo with an excellent driving run and pass to put Thewlis through, the striker kept his head rounded Dearnley in the home goal and scored from a tight angle. The hosts reacted well to going behind and immediately went on the hunt for an equaliser, Duffy curled a shot just past the post. Elliott had a big chance to level the scores but could only shoot wide. In the dying seconds of the half they had their goal, Duffy poking over Cracknell after a quickly taken free kick. Then just three minutes into the second half the hosts were in front, Whitehead's shot crashed off the post and hit Cracknell's back. Elliott was there to score from close range. Emmett had a big chance to equalise when Thewlis found him free on the edge of the box but he fired wide. Dearnley made a good stop from Johnson's volley at a corner. Then the home stopper was at full stretch to keep out Ible's shot from outside the box a great save! As the clock ticked over to the 90th minute Clare finished off a Macc clearance to seal the win. Unlucky today lads. We move on to Blyth Spartans at home on Tuesday night. Come on Guiseley! AB

Weird to feel so positive after a defeat.
I thought there were many good things in that game from Guiseley’s contribution.
Mark and Danny set the team up well. The back five gave us a solid platform and we limited them, grew into the game, then a brilliant goal from Thewlis and we might have been two up before a dodgy yellow card for Brown from a young ref who seemed to struggled against the influence of a large home crowd and a Macclesfield side that went to ground regularly and screamed for everything. We had a rough spell after the break, they had a touch of luck with their second, (which they celebrated in front of the Guiseley fans which lacked class imo), they looked strong for a spell as we had to replace Lawlor and change shape.
However we really took the game to them as we found our feet again and deserved an equaliser. Rightly we pressed up in search of the goal and were only caught on the break as we gambled.
Macclesfield have an incredibly strong team and resources so this was always going to be a tough test. However in my view our management team won the tactical battle over their relatively inexperienced head coach. When they come to ours later this season I suspect we will see a really close game but I’d confidently back this Guiseley team then.
With the resources they have they should go up this year. At the moment I sense their first three games puts them in a false position. I also think our first three games put us in a false position too. Blyth, FC United, and Bamber Bridge will be tough, but I’d back this group to return a good number of points from the next three.

Was not looking forward to going to Macclesfield due to past experiences with heavy handed stewards. But on this occasion couldn’t have been more different a pleasure talking to them. Regarding the game I thought we played very well and played some very good football. The team was set up very well and matched the opponents in all departments. Disappointed with the result but not the performance. Thought Macclesfield celebrations in front of us was not called for though they did this last year . Onwards and upwards.

Not a club with a reputation for class, but good that the stewards were better at least!
Games coming so fast, Blyth on Tuesday will be another interesting test.

Disappointed with the result but the performance was good. The game was always going to finish 2-2 or 3-1. We pushed hard for the equaliser and ended up getting caught for 3-1 which was expected.
We now need to take a good haul of points before the end of the month. Blyth, FC United and Bamber Bridge are all winnable. 7 points from those are needed to get us back in contention near the top. We don’t want to start drifting away from the playoff places this early in the season
