What a great game today. Really entertaining and impressive performance. The scoreline flattered our opponents, who looked a decent side in general. I thought our passing and movement was exciting. Leo Farrell had a wonderful game, but there were performances throughout the team. It feels like the team are still gelling and developing and it feesl there is even more to come. Really positive performance and even the food was great!

Great game and performance today with a fully deserved three points to boot in rare Bank Holiday sunshine! Farrell caused problems all afternoon and more than deserved his two goals and man of the match award, he never stopped running and the second goal was very special. FC United started ok but didn't really cause a lot of problems despite scoring two goals and giving us a late scare. Farrell created the game's first real chance when he bulldozed his way past Ferguson before crossing to Thewlis who could only fire wide. The on-loan Barnsley striker then had an opportunity of his own, his initial shot was blocked and he then hit his second attempt just over. Lufudu was next to shoot wide as we were really piling on the pressure, it felt like a goal was in the offing. Byrne made a great save low down to his right to deny Thewlis and the goalkeeper had to be at his best to stop Brown's swirling shot from going past him. It eventually came and it had to be Farrell, he took the ball down well and shot past Byrne to break the deadlock. We had the lead but it didn't last long as FC United equalised straight away through Fitzmartin. Two minutes before the break we were back in front, Moke had crossed a couple of corners in before this one but Johnson was alive and leapt highest leaving Byrne with no chance. We should have extended our lead at the beginning of the second half, Thewlis and Lufudu both going close but Johnson hit the cross bar and the ball bounced away from danger. Then the visitors won a penalty from nowhere and Le Fondre made no mistake from the spot to level for the second time. Byrne had to be at his best to then keep his side level when he parried Mbeka's header away from the top corner and Ible couldn't find the target. There was a long stoppage after Byrne went off injured and Proctor came on in his place. The substitute goalkeeper's first job was to pick the ball out of the net though when the electric Farrell shot straight into the top corner, a stunning strike! We had another opportunity in the final ten minutes when Longbottom somehow managed to get his shot through a collection of visiting defenders. Johnson also had another chance but Proctor lept to keep it out. The Lions had Cracknell to thank for a stunning save in the last few seconds to stop Preston bagging an equaliser. That was the final chance at the end of a pulsating game of football. Before the match there was a lovely round of applause for Brian Hodgson following his sad passing yesterday. Well played Guiseley! We move on to Bamber Bridge on Monday. Come on Guiseley! AB

A very entertaining game in which Guiseley played some excellent football at times against determined opposition who contributed plenty to the occasion . Farrell on his debut was the pick of the forwards and scored two very well taken goals - he looks a real handful at this level. Among many good individual performances I thought Moke was outstanding - his experience and ability to pick the right pass and read the game well was very influential in the final outcome. Without wishing to take the gloss off a good win I do think today and the previous four matches this season highlight three important areas of focus if we are to be top five contenders. Firstly, we need to stop conceding sloppy goals, the first today was abysmal defending, even more so as we had just taken the lead. Two at Stockton and at least one at Macclesfield were very cheaply conceded as well. Secondly, the final ball into and around the box has to be better. Lots of good passing around the midfield and from the defence but the pass to create a chance for a shot on goal needs to improve - perhaps a bit better today but it’s been an issue in every match so far. This will no doubt improve as the team gels more over the coming weeks. Thirdly, we need to be more clinical in front of goal - three good goals scored today but I counted at least nine more that were somehow spurned. We got away with it today but the better teams will punish that kind of profligacy. Again, hopefully this will also improve as the team gels more. Overall though a very positive and confidence boosting win to take into the game on Monday and hopefully another three points.

Really enjoyed the game yesterday thought we should have won by more as the performance deserved. Along with Farrell thought Moke was outstanding. Good to see Johnson on the score sheet he also played really well and looks like getting back to his best. Think the team are starting to gel together now and a strong bench so competition for places will be tough. Think the goalie deserves a mention for the crucial save at the end👏 Onwards and upwards.

Farrell looked a danger in his cameo appearances against Macc and Blyth, but he was a different level yesterday. Always a goal threat in a way we haven’t had for a long while. He’s a very good striker. Echo earlier comments about Gabriel Johnson, and also thought Ollie Brown was immense in skill, passing and decision making yet again. John Lufudu had one of his quieter games but still showed in flashes what he can do, and Cracknell kept us in it when I was certain Jordan Preston had come back to haunt us. Clearly still work to do given how we conceded the first goal, and while having seen it back it probably was a penalty, it was an avoidable one. After the football we went and watched the first XI hunt down 196 to win which they did, down by nine, with only a couple of overs left. All things considered, a very satisfying afternoon at Nethermoor. Here’s to more like that!

Sounds like I missed a good one! Shame it fell in summer, probably cost us some missed ticket sales, but three points on the board are very welcome.

Great display yesterday as the team look to be coming together and our incessant pressing saw us take the game to FCUM and with more clinical finishing we could have had six or seven. Leo Farrell was just what we have been lacking up front and crowned his home debut with a well taken brace and the MoM award. Some images and video from yesterdays game

This football chat is all well and good. However, nobody seems willing to talk about the real elephant in the room - is Leo Farrell the secret love-child of Jake Lawlor?

FC United take the prize for the most honest report on Guiseley that I’ve ever read. They praise our team throughout and are not just big enough to admit that we were the better team, but go on to underline it at several more points in the piece. Have a look at their account of the game, if you haven’t done so already, and it might just restore your faith in fair and objective reporting. fc-utd.co.uk/match-report/guiseley-versus-fc-united-of-manchester-24-08-2024
