A tale of what could have been on a frustrating afternoon. One again, we have paid for missed chances, and our dreadful penalty record from the last two seasons is extended (although the foul looked outside the box to me). Meanwhile I think Worksop had two clear-cut chances today, prior to their second, and they converted both.
I think generally we acquitted ourselves well against a good side who looked dangerous on the break throughout and made effective use of gamesmanship. Their keeper was excellent and presumably the main reason they had conceded three league goals before today, whilst he also played a part in their second goal.
It is a real shame the match was spoiled by an inconsistent refereeing display and a very questionable looking red card, particularly as we looked to be asking them a lot of questions in the second half with the wind at our backs.
Positives to take from the performance and doubt Worksop have had many sterner tests so far this season, but disappointment that we have nothing to show for our effort.

I honestly don't think that you need to have a beer in your hand to enjoy watching a game of football at a family ground, maybe if we had a segregated area for the drinkers. As to the match,we look a bit thin in some areas and hard as the players worked it showed but we kept going and if we'd kept 11 players on the pitch who knows as I thought we'd stepped up in the second half. Worksop are a tough organised team and will do well, especially given naive officials and a management team who from the sidelines question every decision given against them, sour grapes no,I just don't like bullies in any walk of life.

I honestly don't think that you need to have a beer in your hand to enjoy watching a game of football at a family ground, maybe if we had a segregated area for the drinkers. Well by your logic we also don’t need to have a pie and chips in your hand to enjoy the match either so shall we ban food too? You also don’t need to wear replica shirts or scarves to enjoy the game either so let’s ban those too yeah? Simple fact is that having a drink with friends whilst you watch the game is a big reason why people come to watch non-league. And your suggestion to segregate people at games is completely against the spirit of what non-league is all about. I think a lot of the issue is that the club have imposed an alcohol ban with absolutely zero explanation, virtually no notice and no indication whether this is a one off or not. Alcohol consumption is not a problem at Guiseley so unless the police have told the club to do this then it is a baffling decision. But until the club deem us worthy enough to know why, speculation will be rife. Lets not ruin what many of us love and enjoy about non league football by segregating people and banning practices that many enjoy.

I can't say that I have ever come across someone acting unreasonably after consuming pie and peas but there you go, but I have been in situations in football grounds where idiots have decided it would be a good idea to challenge the opposition fans and all hell has broken loose regardless of whether there were kids there or not and yes at non league level with later alcohol being to blame. Not everyone is sensible, mature and able to just enjoy a couple of pints and really non league football is in deep doodah if the only attraction is to be able to have a pint.

One of the first referees I can recall in recent times. Spoke with management post game and they were proud of the team as I was in that tried to play football. I couldn’t watch that style of football from Worksop week in week out. Reminded me of our bad old days.
Regan, hang your head in shame. Nobody was anywhere near him at the time. I don’t mind losing fair and square but cheating is another level.
Btw, tackle from Regan outside the box. However, we need to dispatch these opportunities but we’ll move on as a long season.

I think when the club signpost local pubs it maybe is an indication that away fans could be a problem particularly when you realise cricket was at home today also so bar staff may have been stretched. I was surprised that this game wasn't segregated much as I hate that but the club may have received late information of a problem and this was a quick solution.
As you say until we have a leak from the upper echelons we'll never know.

Leaving Lufudu and johnson on the bench played straight into their hands as we resorted to sending long balls up to Leo Farrell which Joe Acroyd and Jack Emmett were never going to get when up against Hamza Bencherif and Luke Shiels. The way to put their defence on the backfoot was down the flanks not down the middle and as for the ref, he had a 'mare which Town exploited to the full with their propensity to fall over and moan about every tackle but we should have ridden above that and beat them with football.

Far from disheartened today.
Thought we more than matched the second in the league.
I’m glad we play the way we do if other sides choose to play a different way so be it.
The ref had a nightmare.
The alcohol situation will be resolved in due course for the benefit of supporters.
The current inconvenience will be worth it for supporters in the long run.
Ultimately many people watch non league because of the more relaxed environment. We must protect that at all costs.

Worksop played an overly niggly game that was ineffectually refereed, with decisions that appeared to baffle one linesman at least. I haven't seen so many males gripping their partners around the waist so tightly since a last dance at a school disco. The Worksop players must have thought they were auditioning for Strictly Come Dancing.
Worksop were workman-like. They were there not to lose at any cost; they will probably do well, but won't attract many admirers. As a spectacle, Morpeth were far more entertaining, and consequentally won't do so well. Worksop's goalkeeper had a very good game, especially as he was left exposed through poor defending on several occasions.
A disappointing defeat, but these things happen. I think Guiseley are playing with more flair, fluidity, stamina and ball control than they have for several years. On to next Saturday...

When I walked out of the clubhouse with a plastic glass of diet coke with ice and lemon the steward insisted on sniffing it to establish it wasn't alcohol. I didn't know whether to be annoyed or amused.

Ultimately many people watch non league because of the more relaxed environment. We must protect that at all costs. Are we in dispute with our neighbours again?!? A lot of us enjoy a drink at Nethermoor and there is an obvious joke for Nik and the Media team of needing a drink to suffer some of the 💩 we’ve watched over the last few years but I can’t believe anyone comes solely to have a drink. It’s easy to forget but during a cost-of-living crisis £13 is a lot to watch L7 football. Anyways sounds the club are working on a solution but I do hope the post-match clubhouse🍺with players/staff is here to stay. If I was being mischievous, I love the idea of segregation. The drinkers beneath the clubhouse stand, the young (non-trouble causing) kids in the family stand, the older (creating an atmosphere) kids in the George Stocks and then the older non-drinkers shouting abuse at players and officials in the main stand. Oh hang on 🙈 . Still not entirely where the Pie and Peas brigade go….

A tight and enthralling game at Nethermoor today as Worksop just managed to eek out a win against the ten men Lions. The game was pretty equal throughout and the first half followed this pattern from the off as we started quickly but then Worksop grew into the game. Farrell had a great chance but Malkowski made a stunning save underneath his own crossbar. Hall volleyed over from the edge of the box for the visitors as they also hit the side netting with a tame effort. A load of yellow cards followed for both sides as the ref dished them out like it was Christmas. The visitors struck in, an unspecified amount, of injury time with a calm finish across Cracknell from Bramall. We equalised immediately in the second half, Leo Farrell with a wonderful volley which Malkowski had no chance of keeping out. He just about got down to Ackroyd's pea roller shot which was heading into the bottom corner. A penalty followed with 25 minutes left, former Lion Hutchinson was adjudged to have fouled Longbottom but the number 11 couldn't find a way past the Worksop stopper. Moke's second yellow followed just four minutes later after a scuffle in the centre circle. With ten minutes left it was 2-1 when Malkowski made a vital interception and cleared forwards, Redford powered home a header from close range. It nearly wasn't the end of scoring, with seconds left the Lions sent Cracknell forward for a corner but he could only shoot over. Unlucky Guiseley! We move on to Scunthorpe United at home on Saturday and a rare free midweek! Come on Guiseley! AB
