Much better start from Guiseley despite the early goal from Ashton. Great for Sam Bentley getting his 1st team goal and of course Will with his brace. He’s now 2nd top goal scorer in our league. We are 10 points behind Macclesfield, they have a game in hand. So proud of the lads and Mark and Danny. Despite the number of injured players we have a team who can adapt and cause problems for the opposition. A must win today and we did it!!!!!

A win away at a team in the play off spots is a good win.

Probably the best I’ve seen us play this season. Going away to one of the better teams in the league in tricky conditions, and aside from the opening quarter of an hour, they caused us very little problems.
I really like how we don’t seem to panic when we go behind like tonight, or start slowly like against Hebburn. This group seem to be full of confidence and belief in each other, and obviously recent results will just further fuel that.
Some of the build of play for our goals was excellent, particularly the opener with great work from Emmett, a lovely flick on from Joe Ackroyd with Longbottom dispatching on the volley.
A little surprised with how Ashton approached the match, seeming to sit quite deep hoping to catch us on the counter. Perhaps Cunningham recognising our threat and paying us respect.
Also for what it’s worth, Robbie Savage was in attendance last night with some other Macclesfield staff.
Up to two points a game now, I hope we can keep the momentum going and see where it takes us.

Brilliant win at one of our bogey teams. Squad is down to the bare bones but we keep producing results like this so all credit to Mark, Danny and Russ for their recruitment and management.

So much to enjoy in last night’s performance against a team who would have climbed above us in the table had they won. On the best playing surface I can recall seeing at Ashton we passed the ball nicely all evening and some of the movement off the ball was excellent. Ashton started the better and grabbed an early goal on the break which was not well defended but the players didn’t panic and gradually played their way into the game. The equaliser owed much to Emmett’s persistence against the Ashton defender and a flick by Ackroyd on to Longbottom who converted from inside the six yard box. In the second half we continued to dominate the ball (as Mike25 says Ashton rather allowed that which was a bit odd) and brilliant work by Ackroyd down the left allowed Longbottom a second close range conversion to put Guiseley ahead. A few minutes later Longbottom’s curling effort smashed against the crossbar with the keeper beaten but Bentley smuggled the rebound over the line to give a two goal margin which Ashton never looked like closing. The fourth was a great finish by Jordan Thewlis when superbly put through by Moke. Considering we had no recognised full backs on the pitch (Bentley and Ible filled in very ably)and other injuries to cope with I thought this was as good as we have played all season - very controlled, fluid play with great movement and a very well deserved three points.
34 points from 17 games is exactly two points per game - often enough to win the league as it equates to 84 points at the end of the season. That wont be enough this season and I for one am willing to congratulate Macclesfield now on their league victory as I cannot see them being caught by anyone given their form and squad depth. Next best is to finish second and guarantee home games in the playoffs and I reckon if we can keep around the 2 points per game average we will be favourites for that spot - but obviously a very long way to go still!! My biggest concern remains injuries and our squad which I still believe is a couple of players short of ideal. In my view we particularly need an out and out striker like Farrell to replace him when he returns to Barnsley in January.

Another great win and big three points last night at a side also hunting down a potential promotion spot. As mentioned we got off to a slow start but then recovered before simply blowing Ashton away in the second half. Couto buried the ball from the first chance of the game with a neat finish that flashed across Cracknell and in. From here Ashton had another couple of half chances but we were soon level when Emmett’s cross took a deflection before Ackroyd instinctively flicked the ball on to Longbottom who kept his composure to smash past Eastham. Shortly after the equaliser Mbeka nearly put us in front when Ackroyd’s cross found the defender in the box but his header flashed just wide. Approaching the final third of the half Ashton had another chance to go in front when Couto headed just over Cracknell’s bar. We did get a second five minutes before the break but the goal from Ackroyd was ruled out for a foul earlier in the move. It didn’t take long to get in front in the second half though, Ackroyd again key to the goal with his cross picking out Longbottom who had all the time in the world to finish and put us in front. Then six minutes later it was 3-1 when Longbottom’s shot dipped before smashing off the bar and falling perfectly for Bentley who slotted home for his first Guiseley goal. A string of substitutions followed for Ashton which interrupted the flow of the game but heading into the final 20 minutes Longbottom had another chance when Lufudu picked him out in the box but the ball got stuck under his feet. With 10 minutes left former Lion Denton had a big chance to pull one back for his side when he slide the ball past the post and across the face of goal. With five minutes left Longbottom came very close to getting his third of the night, his free kick was well saved by a full stretch Eastham. In injury time Jordan Thewlis settled the game when Moke’s through ball found the forward and he slotted well past Eastham to secure the win. Burke did pull one back deep in injury time but it was only a consolation for the Robins. A big win and we keep the momentum rolling going into another tough game on Saturday against Matlock Town, come on Guiseley! AB

Terrific result and by sounds of it performance Struggle to remember when we last won 4 league games on the bounce We are 2nd in the league and form tables Will we be able to keep hold of Longbottom? Not sure what his level is but could play NL/NLN for his set pieces alone Will the game at Matlock be on? Slightly hoping it’s postponed so the boys get a well-deserved few days off Come on the 🦁

Got to agree with comments above. Freezing cold night, but warmed up especially second half with a quality performance against fellow play-off contenders. Keep this level of performance going and we should be OK for play-offs. Have to agree, I think Macclesfield will win the league, so finishing second must be our aim.
