An intriguing game that, and before the game I was interested to see how both teams dealt with the unusual conditions. Worksop certainly seemed to deal with it better, they created a number of chances when they had the wind behind them, and didn't panic when playing into it in the second half.
As an aside, in my distant Craven League days, we always preferred to play into such a wind rather than with it, so I wasn't surprised when Worksop turned the teams round having won the toss. We also preferred to play uphill in the second half at Oxenhope, but that is a digression too far...
Guiseley looked stronger once Burton came on,and given the pressure that they were building, deserved the lead when they got it. However, there was then a good spell of possession when they should have increased the lead but just could not create clear chances. I was disappointed that twice in going forward no 14 (Malcher?) tried fancy footwork and tricks when at 1-0 up in tricky conditions simple stuff and hanging onto the ball are paramount.
We were just mulling over the fact that it is more than a year since I have seen Guiseley win (such is my irregular attendance) when the double whammy at the end hit them; although I wasn't leaving space at the back for either goal, I do feel partly responsible. You'll be pleased to
hear that I'm unlikely to make it to Tuesday's game and work commitments will definitely keep me away from Saturday's game...
I enjoy following the fortunes of both the club and the regular posters on this site, and, following a number of clubs can say that this is one of the better forums (fora?!). I enjoyed the recent thread about whether this site was declining, and would have to say in answer 'no, not really'; Adam's timing with the question about the meaning of 'prevarication' was exquisite. I read that on the same day as following the Burscough game via cdp's excellent updates and would comment that there were 16 of us in here at the time. Seems pretty healthy to me.
Finally, Nik I worked out who you and your brother were and was pleased to see that you looked to be enjoying the half time pies..!
