The new midfielder/winger Lee Askam reminds me of our former veteran Mark Stuart. They are both highly skilled players who can in a flash win a game for you but the downside is they are luxury players who always arrive for a tackle a split second too late ,and do not like putting their foot in.This is ok as long as the other midfielders can take the strain and their style of play does,nt cause any defensive weakness.

Having said that, I remember Mark Stuart's being rightly sent off against Fulham at Valley Parade for a London bus of a tackle (late, high and flattening everything in its path). If a player can't tackle properly it's probably best he doesn't try, though tracking back and 'marking space' shouldn't be beyond the capability of anyone with reasonable fitness levels. Lee Askham's natural skills are such that he ought to be able to run rings round 90% of full backs at our level without their managing to lay a stud on him.

Adam - I don't know yet, but I really hope he is.
He looks fast and skillful but he seems cautious about really running at defenders and taking them on. Maybe as he settles into the team we'll see more of it - more pace and width would hardly be a bad thing.

Lee Askham looks a good player but like most players that have played at a higher level in the Unibond you dont get alot of time on the ball and it is a physical league. He has got a good touch and good movement he will need time to settle but I think he will be a good addition on what ive seen so far,my only concern is we have a decent midfield but play too direct at times lets get the ball down and play on the deck.....:/

Seen a lot of NL footy over the years at all levels and I agree the NP League is competitive. I also thinks is a better standard than its southern counterparts, the Ryman and Southern Leagues, or maybe thats just my northern bias?

Leon, though I did see Lenny Henry at the West Yorkshire Playhouse recently, playing Othello in his Black Country accent - the original Dudley Moor.
