I supported Arthur Scargill and the miners all the way through the strike and all the way through those dark, unforgiving years of Tory rule under Margaret Thatcher. I manned the soup kitchens, I took part in ad hoc collections as and when and wherever and whenever we possibly could. I stood shoulder to shoulder with those good men in the face of the fierce and bitter class warfare assaults on their communities and on the working class and Labour movement as a whole...and then I went to an away match down at Frickley and I wondered why I bothered!...

regdab, I like your style. Stick around and you could replace the old badger who used to come on here until his team got promoted (watch out for otleybard's irrational hatred of badgers though).

(watch out for otleybard's irrational hatred of badgers though). Don't knock it, pris. It means there are two games this season I'm rooting for the Cunning Old Celts.

I'll change to batleyrod if you'll be ripsnore. My new name includes two things I'm good at but you sound like a Kirklees stripper. If regdab lived in nearby Newark and he made an anagram of his home town he'd have to be careful (but chances are he lives in Retford. In which case he has my commiserations ).

Elderly Lady in railway compartment: Excuse me, Sir, but your appendage is sticking out.
Gentleman: Don't flatter yourself, Madam: it's hanging out.

Truth be told, I wish I did live in Retford. And if you've ever been to Mansfield, you'll understand why.
