The first joint managers I can remember since Alan Curbishley and Steve Gritt. I think they are well thought out appointments. I am quite relieved we are going p-t. SSL would be a good player coach (provided he plays midfield), then we'd have a hell of a management team. I notice the announcement was made shortly after lioncub demanded it. When lioncub roars jump, the board ask how high. Could be a useful weapon this season.

Welcome to the club Marcus, Russ and Paul.
I remember saying a few weeks ago that Marcus Bignot would make a good appointment, he's a manager who I have always thought does a decent job, his Solihull sides always gave us a good game.
His hands were well and truley tied at Chester but still after a dismal showing on Boxing Day they were much improved on New Year's Day at Nethermoor.
Honestly I don't know too much about Russ and Paul other than we nearly signed Paul a few years back but he chose Harrogate instead, it's been a long path to Nethermoor for him!
Let's hope for a successful season ahead and to be competitive again after a hard fought and disastrous campaign.
Best of luck to Sean St Ledger too, a great man who will be fondly remembered at Guiseley AFC, his speech at the End of Season Dinner was fantastic and he made sure to go round every table thanking people for their support.

Like to thank SSl for all of his efforts and hope he stays as a player or gets a management appointment somewhere. He's definetly one of the good guys.

I think I need more information from them before I’m sold, it sounds like the beginning of a new prosperous era though however it will depend on signings and what else is said by the new management team. Thanks Sean and good luck Lads, let’s hope this is the start of something great.

The announcement says the new management team has been "hand picked"---cant see any evidence the joint managers have worked together before --if this is correct we can only presume they have the same theories on tactics and how the game should be played and it will inevitably take time for a successful partnership to evolve--imo this is a bold experiment by the directors and I admire their obvious desire to get the club on its feet again-----interesting times ahead!

I think the appointment is balanced given the fact that the two main candidates have managed at the level we are now at and higher in the pyramid so have an understanding of the leagues.
I was impressed by SSL and his energy and desire were welcomed after the dark days of Cox but I think his appointment would have come too soon and he is better off cutting his teeth at a lower level to get the experience he needs to one day become a good manager.
On the strengths of the management team it was mentioned that they like to bring through the youthful talent. Well we’ve had a successful academy for a while now so wouldn’t it be nice to see 3 or 4 of these make the first team next season to show to other aspiring academy players that there is scope to make it at Guiseley.
For me a good appointment that will take time to gel but let’s not forget it’s a long old slog in this league and as long as we hit our straps later in the season I feel we can get back in to the conference but on a better footing than when we left it!!
Oh and joint managers were mentioned before. Whilst curbishley and gritt were one double act Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson were the other more recent incumbents that steered Salford city to 3 promotions and have now joined Chester city. Definitely a bigger dig out for that game!!!!

As much as I hope Bignot and Russ make me eat my words and I’ll be there cheering on the boys hoping for a future promotion, The Salford double act were my preference for the job. However as said above it’s all about what they do with the job now.

Welcome aboard Bigs & Russ An imaginative appointment Both appear well grounded at this level Both appear suited for a club like GAFC I really like the emphasis on youth which should mean Will Wells gets a contract and young Flowers become a regular. I guess the major concern will be how Bigs & Russ work together - unfortunately I remember Evans & Houllier. Who’s good cop - who’s bad cop. Still I’m happy with the clubs decision and see this as a way of consolidating next season which has to be the aim when we start BIG thank you to SSL - he’s still got it as a player if not the knees to allow him to play. He needs a bit more grounding as my manager (my opinion only)

Agree MrP think the job came a bit to soon for SSL. Hope he stays as a player his experience would be invaluable to the young players. Would be nice to know which players are already committed for next season? Good luck to the new management team for the forth coming season and build what SSL started ie a smile to the fans faces again and most of all winning football matches.

On the Supporters' club Facebook page this evening, there's a post with the heading, "Even though Sean has left the club this is still an interesting read about his career. Good luck Sean!"
Perhaps he has gone?

Can only assume that 'hand picked' means that rather than the duo's appplying for the job as a single entity, the interviewing panel couldn't decide on the better of their two favourite candidates and persuaded them to work as an 'arranged marriage'. I, similarly, haven't been able to uncover any historical link between the two beyond an occasional pre-match 'handshake', which would point to an initial Evans/Houllier-type relationship rather than a Johnson/Morley or Clough/Taylor one and would require a mutual and effective division of responsibilities, further complicated by Russ's previous work with Paul Clayton. Whatever, moulds, like rules, are made to be broken, and between them there's undoubtedly enough nous and experience to disentangle the web created by last season's catalogue of cock-ups and assemble a squad capable of halting and reversing the slide in National North. We certainly hope so.
