From todays T & A Website
'Avenue secretary Steve Burnett said: "We put seven days notice in for Mark but (chief executive) Bob Blackburn spoke to Steve Kittrick at Guiseley and they gave us permission to talk to the player right away.
"He is a forward well known in the area after making his name at Wibsey before playing for Farsley Celtic and Guiseley and he has scored goals wherever he has been."'
7:44am today
Why the hurry to let him go!

We didnt want to wait for the seven days to elapse with regards to bettsy,we needed to know asap whether he wanted to go or not so we could set about trying to find a replacement if the decision was to leave. There is a deadline in March for signing people and finding and getting quality in at this stage of the season is very difficult. With regards to not being able to afford to keep him, that is not the case at all,we didnt want to get into a bidding war with BPA,Bettsy was on good money with us and while we probably would have gone a little higher with his wages im sure Mr Blackburn would have trumped our offer significantly, hence his departure.Once again we are disappointed Mark chose to leave us but thats football at this level im afraid.

Good evening Wayne,
I am not sure if you will feel able to answer this question, However it is one which needs to be asked. Reaching the play offs is a must this season, to do so we need the best squad possible, Gavin Knight is a natural replacement for Betsy and could be in the squad for saturday. Surely for the good of GAFC he should be recalled ... I understand the reasons behind why he went on loan, but Steve and yourself must see the need to replace Besty asap (before sat if possible) Gavin is a good player, who loves his football and is good enough. On the other hand if Steve and yourself feel that he is not good enough and that is the reson fair enough as you are the management.
regards
WL

Totally agree Ashley246, I think the fans are better served than ever under the new regime...Let's just hope it all comes right, but we can only carry on supporting like we did last Saturday, which sounded pretty damned good to me....

I dont want to get drawn on the Gav Knight situation but i understand the point you are making WL.Needless to say our phones have been red hot and we are attempting to bring a couple of players in before saturday but because of the stage we are at in the season its not straight forward.Hopefully will have some positive news on that score and will try to keep you up to speed.

I agree Yeadoner the support on saturday was great and what would be very pleasing is if you all turned out in force against Witton [which im sure you will]and really got behind the lads, including Piotr. It really makes a difference when you turn the volume up and may just spur the lads on to a good performance and hopefully a good result against arguably the best side in this division.Games like this should be looked forward to and if we can get the right result it could really boost the confidence for the remaining games.

Thats fine Wayne, my last word on the situation is that whilst you are look afar for a decent replacement dont forget what is right under your nose.
And as long as you and Steve have had the conversation over Gavin then i respect your decision.
On to saturday and 3 points

We do not need to be told to get behind the team,we are supporters, it is what we do!!! The goalkeeper in the team at the moment is Piotr, he will therefore get our support. The management do not need to defend him all the time, his performances should supply all the answers eventually. As for the abuse he has had to suffer, i have to say i for one have not heard anything .

While I fully support Wayne and Steve's ambitions for Guiseley. I'd question why Wayne says we are seen as 'a big scalp' by other teams in the league. We're in this league having finished just above midtable when the league was restructured..we were previously fighting relegation, and have finished respectably mid-table without troubling the play-offs in recent seasons. We haven't been bullied by other teams for whom games against us are cupfinals. We haven't spent big and from our results there's just no reason for anyone to fear playing us at our place. And we quite simply haven't beaten teams from lower down the league when we should have. We've lost quality players this season-Kreif, Smith,Knight, Dickinson, Betts, and brought in players from lower down the league who haven't, as yet, lived up to their billing. We haven't looked like a team that should be playing in a higher league, and perhaps should stop talking about playoffs as a right...we haven't earned it yet...and the league situation compared to 2 weeks ago is very depressing. We haven't moved on quality wise since Pars was sacked when we were third in the league a couple of years ago. Wayne and Steve seem like great guys with Guiseley's best interests at heart, but I think a sense or realism is needed. I'm fully behind the club and it's management-but one or two (even 3?)quality players from higher up the pyramid are desperately needed if the club is to progress.
