The Reserves started their pre-season warm up with a game at Beeston St Anthony's but played somewhere in Hunselt and we all eventually got there - although Vinnie had to go rescue some lost souls from the Costco car park after they had gone round in circles a few times.
We got a hot reception and Mark Wilby had a bloodied nose just minutes into the game. It was a real battle and we eventually lost 1-0. Guiseley had plenty of chances including a penalty which Liam Robinson failed to net - the 'keeper saving.
It was very much men against boys at times and with only 16 year-old subs to come on a certain Mr Brockie got stripped and made his entrance to offer the young lads some protection.
Funny how the opposition calmed down after that!!
Guiseley: Sam Hesketh; Sam Jacomb, Dan Husband (Capt), Jamie Cairns, Duncan Welsh; Callum White, Mark Wilby (Sam Robinson), Will Hutton (Vince Brockie), Adam Hill; Adam Edwards, Liam Robinson. Sub not used Clark Lydon (GK)
The reserve squad is still lacking some key players and last year's captain Tom Higman is due back in training this week after illness. Fellow centre-back Carl Palmer is still on his world tour and midfielder Joe Hendrie will miss much of the season also having gone on a world tour. Will Boye has gone home from uni for the summer.
Striker Luke Hudson is expected to be out of the game until October following an operation on the shoulder he injured in the Sunday cup final but indications are he may be moving on while fellow striker James Sylvester will be going to university in the south of England.
There have been a number of new faces at training and the friendly games over the coming weeks will no doubt sort out a decent squad under the watchful eye of Vinnie and Stu.
