OK, slip of the keyboard!
That is Thursday, August 6th at Otley Town and yes we do have another game on Sunday morning somewhere in Bradford - Vinnie has not let us into the secret yet. He likes to let the lads see the raw side of the game before letting them settle into their comfort zone in the Lancashire League where ground standards are pretty high and the football usually good. We have been quite lucky in the East Section getting a couple of new teams in Silsden and Eccleshill but they may find it tough going as Yorkshire Ammers did last season. The West Section has lost some teams - even since the AGM. Vinnie has almost finalised his squad but there are not too many changes from last season. Joe Hendrie will miss almost all the season on his world travels but centre-back Carl Palmer should be back at the end of September. Carl proved an extremely useful addition to the squad when he joined us towards the back end of last season when he came to live in Menston. The probable squad appears to be shaping up as follows: GKS - Ben Higginson (new signing from Baildon Trinity Athletic), Clark Lydon Defenders - Callum White, Dan Husband, Tom Higman, Callum Strodder (new signing, formerly with West Riding County FA U-18 squad), Danny Berry (new signing), Carl Palmer, Jamie Cairns, Sam Jacomb Midfield - Adam Hill, Will Hutton, Mark Wilby, Lee Williamson (new signing), Will Boye, Sam Robinson Strikers - Graham Shaw (new signing, at one time with Doncaster Rovers club), Luke Hudson, Liam Robinson, Adam Edwards
The majority of the lads are locals from Guiseley/ Menston area with a sprinkling from Baildon/Shipley and another sprinkling from the student enclave of the Headingley area.
We look forward to another season of exciting football and with eight teenagers in that squad Vinnie and Stu will again have the opportunity to develop some real local talent.

Carl Palmer? Saw him in Harrogate earlier this year touring with Asia, presume he'll be banging his drums?

It was a 1-1 draw, good work out for both sides but lots of players involved. Chris McCarthy netted Guiseley's equaliser after Otley Town had taken an early second-half lead through Ben Greenhalgh. The man in black Tony Brown kept everything under control in fine style and it was great to see my old friend Keith Urquhart out and about, after having to have a leg amputated below the knee. Knowing Keith's determination he will be up out of that wheelchair before too long and everyone at Guiseley AFC wishes him well. Guiseley had nine subs, all due to come on at half-time, but as none of them had responded to Vinnie's request to run the line and he ended up doing it himself their arrival on the pitch was delayed by 20 minutes to teach them a lesson! Lesson well learned I would say. Callum White and Chris Davey had a run out after being with the first team for their pre-season games. Guiseley's starting line-up was: Sam Hesketh; Callum White, Jamie Cairns, Callum Strodder, Dan Berry; Sam Robinson, Tom Higman, Chris Davey, Danny Todd ; Graham Shaw, Adam Edwards.
Second-half subs were Ben Higginson, Adam Hill, Lee Williamson, Paul Willis, Mark Wilby, Sam Jacomb, Will Boye, Chris McCarthy, Luke Hudson. The Reserves have one pre-season game left, on Sunday, and then launch into their Lancashire League season on August 15th at Ossett Town.

Really enjoyed watching the Reserves last night, and I reckon we could all do far worse than getting ourselves down to watch 'em throughout the season. The levels of fitness look superb - full credit to Vinnie and Stu for that - and I'm never disappointed if I can only just get myself up and out of the chair and toddle off down Nethermoor for the game...

Also watched the last match at Otley. Agree about the entertainment value and the fitness aspect. Pity Guiseley didn't make it count though with the amount of possession they had and good but spurned chances created. Early days and players missing apparently, whilst rarely does anybody get 'up' for even local friendlies.
