Ekow is a 22 year-old centre back who has plenty of experience in non league playing for Glossop North End, Workington, Ashton United, Macclesfield, Enfield Town and North Greenford United across his career so far. While I wish the lad well, he's only 22 and has already been at 6 clubs. When you say, "has plenty of experience" - at what? Being transferred, or living in various places the length and breadth of the country? The career longevity of some of our recent signings has been marginally longer than the less than 2-week average life expectancy of a newly commissioned British tank troop officer in Normandy in 1944.
Guiseley have not only sacked their manager, but perhaps unwittingly, their most experienced centre back. This sort of signing does not instil me with confidence.

Not too sure Danny Ellis would have hung around as a player after losing the managers job?

I fairness I think the other centre back is the one they’ve signed for Danny. This one I guess is backup for Ible when Ible has to be backup for George.

Hope I'm wrong but looks like another journeyman who's not made an impact wherever he's been.

Hope I'm wrong but looks like another journeyman who's not made an impact wherever he's been. Respectfully I hope you’re wrong too. I guess some players take a while to find the right club/manager for them. Who knows? Maybe that’s us, and he loves it here, and scores 30 goals a season and we go up, and everything’s finally fine again. Or not, you know, whatever. My point is, good luck to him. Welcome aboard Zak.

We haven’t exactly been swimming in goals so someone who’s scored once in three for Oldham and once in four for Halifax has to be worth a look for us at Glue level. Scored that nice goal that’s been doing the rounds on social media too.

Can't believe we have let Luke Dean go and replaced him with a youngster from Matlock just when we need some stability in midfield.

Can't believe we have let Luke Dean go and replaced him with a youngster from Matlock just when we need some stability in midfield. Yes but Ross Daly has done really well and Luke won't want to be just back up. Like you I am sorry to see him go.

Daly is better in that role and you couldn’t play them both. So I guess he’s either gone to save budget, or because he wouldn’t be happy not starting, or because he had only come here for Danny. Don’t suppose we’ll know which.

There has been a busy few days on the squad front. It started with the sad news that after making 13 appearances for the club Barnsley have recalled Joe Ackroyd from his loan with us. The midfielder, who turned up to support the lads in Tuesday's Isuzu FA Trophy game, scored four goals and showed plenty of commitment to the cause. He was named on the bench in Barnsley's win over Burton Albion last week. Thanks for everything and good luck for the future Joe. Incoming is 24 year-old striker Zak Dearnley from Liversedge as Paul Phillips' first signing. Zak came through Man United's academy and went on to play for Oldham Athletic and FC Halifax Town. Welcome to Guiseley Zak! Read more about the new man here: guiseleyafc.co.uk/dearnley-confirmed-as-phillips-first-new-signing/Also joining the club is goalkeeper Cam Mason on loan from Southport. The stopper kept 15 clean sheets last season, the third highest in the National League North, and spent seven years at Curzon Ashton. Welcome to Guiseley Cam! Read more about the new keeper here: guiseleyafc.co.uk/cam-mason-arrives-on-loan-from-southport/Cam was also discussed on the 'Football Cliches' podcast from around 38 minutes in, they debate whether he is the UK's best sportsperson: podfollow.com/1495077779/episode/e071f73eb854b7c2bcdf7f29debce62a52552273/viewArriving on Tuesday night was Irish duo Kallan Murphy and Leigh Whelan. Forward Kallan played under Phillips at Matlock Town this season after a spell with Chesterfield's academy and had a loan spell with Clipstone. Whelan, who made his debut on Tuesday night, also played at Matlock this campaign but joins the club from Stocksbridge Park Steels. The midfielder has also played for Chesterfield and Sheffield FC. Read more about Kallan and Leigh here: guiseleyafc.co.uk/lions-welcome-murphy-whelan/It was also confirmed that midfielder Luke Dean has left the club after making 15 appearances this season, good luck for the future Luke! Also departing the club is Goalkeeping Coach Karl Lenaghan, Karl arrived with Danny Ellis in the summer but is now no longer on the coaching staff at Nethermoor. Finally it was announced earlier today that after making two appearances for the club Adam Yates has rejoined Matlock Town, he spent 12 years there before retiring from football at the end of the 2020/21 season. Nicky Walker gone to Liversedge. guiseleyafc.co.uk/walker-leaves-lions-for-liversedge/I can only think of one really good game he had for us and Lewis Whitham is better so this looks fair enough to me. Still have Cass, Haw, Mo, Chapman, Dearnley, Murphy and maybe Andy Kellett to fit into that front three.

I guess new managers often bring new perspectives, so while I’m sad to see Nicky go (and especially to Liversedge) it’s perhaps not all that surprising. As Nik says, we’re not short of attacking options at the moment. Not the Christmas present I was hoping for though!
