I don’t like the cowards comment. Anyone who’s managed or been managed in any setting will know that’s likely to backfire on the person saying it. You can’t slag people off into performing. And in any case, I haven’t seen our players not bothering en masse.
My concern right now is that it feels like we brought in an impact manager who had an impact but not for long enough to see the season out. If you’re running at volume 11 all the time then soon even the most provocative encouragement becomes part of the noise.
I hope to find out this concern was unfounded when we walk the league next season.

This summary on ‘ftttl’ sums up very well how it felt for many fans during/after yesterday’s match v Gainsborough. Some supporters clearly stayed away, but, with three home matches left, what can be done to bring them back before the season ends?

I can’t believe people are unhappy with Phillips. He’s taken over a pretty much impossible job and needed to maintain a 2 points per game ratio to even have a chance of play offs, the only team realistically averaging that amount of points is shields. Joined mid-way through a season where players aren’t available. I could bet my house on him getting at least 5th place for us next season…. If not even higher 🤷♂️

fair point, Josh, but Mason, Boateng, Meppen Walters, Daly, Whelan, Whitham and Chippendale all joined mid-season and are our most consistent players. Not easy, but you can find good players available.

I agree bud and I’d keep every single one of those you’ve just mentioned bar Kwame, but I wouldn’t be upset if I see him starting at full back for us next season. Since phillo has come in chippendale has doubled his performances, whitham has been immense, we all love the two Irish lads, and meppen has been some signing, hopefully we can persuade him to join permanently. I don’t know about everyone else but I want to get out this division as soon as possible. Keep the players we’ve mentioned here, make additions and let phillo work his magic. He took a diabolical Matlock side to the play offs and were unfortunate to not be promoted. He will do the business. Straight to the point and doesn’t keep any players who won’t play for the badge. This is exactly what we need. Let’s enjoy the ride because it’s gonna be a very good one.

I can’t believe people are unhappy with Phillips. My read is that people are unhappy with one goal in four and suddenly being out of the playoff race. Any time you get a total slump in results like that, people are going to wonder. Paul’s a United fan; go look at whether people are happy with Ten Hag tonight. Goes with the territory

Goes with the territory Constantly having to repeat myself. So many injuries. Best player out. 4 best players out last week v Radcliffe. Chippy,Cass,Ible out for Gainsborough. Any team is gonna be poor when they lose all their key men. Everyone was happy with Ellis being bang average in the job averaging about 1.2 points per game. Every team has a blip and ours is only because of injuries. Absolutely not the managers fault at all. No other manager available to us with this depleted squad gets results different to what we have in the last 4 games.

Not really bud, people are clearly not happy with Phillips at the moment so I’m trying to explain the bigger picture. Wether my ambition for the club to go up divisions is higher than yours I don’t know, but this is the right man for the job. Stick with him.

Some people may be unhappy with the manager and want him gone, but not many I think. And not me. PP gave us hope, if only for a short time, in terms of chasing a play off place. Then injuries and suspensions damaged continuity, consistency and upset our promotion challenge. The players brought in in recent weeks have had to be acquired hastily, which is not the best basis for making more informed/better decisions but, this was necessary. Ie ‘Needs must’. Building a better squad takes time, and from now, through pre-season to the start of 2023/24 offers a proper opportunity for PP to do this in what will be (if he gets the chance) his first full season. He deserves the chance.
However, perhaps the manager should be more careful what he says to interviewers in these straight-after-the match 1:1s (where emotions are running high) which go out to the listening public on the GAFC website. Criticism and particularly harsh criticism of the players is best kept in the dressing room or manager’s office Ie between manager and players. Doing so publicly is not a good ‘look‘ and probably, in a number of ways is counter-productive to team morale and team spirit, I would imagine.

Never expected us to be in the playoffs but up until Saturday there was a chance that we could make it. It’s nice to be in a position that we are not looking over our shoulders at relegation. We knew that when a new manager comes in he will want his type of player. Paul came in at a difficult time in the season and to take over from a club legend is no easy task. But surprisingly we have climbed the table and looked good until we had all the injuries. So let’s hope for a good end to the season and push on next season. Onwards and upwards.

Taken my time to respond to Sat performance. Overall the lads showed the effort without any rewards & I don't think they can moan too much as a draw was probably the best we could have hoped for, but Gainboro were able to finish one of their few chances where we weren't.
I for one believe in giving the manager a fair chance & inheriting a squad half way through a season with a team in relegation battle is a difficult one. I said before the season that a top half finish this one would be OK for me after years of relegation fights. Well this has happened or will at least I'm sure we can all agree. Yes for a time the play-off's looked possible, but injuries to key players has probably put pay to that. How good would Hyde, Radcliffe & Gainsboro be if they both lost 3/4 key players at the same time ? It's unfortunate, but that's football.
I agree that some of Mr PP's comments straight after the final whistle were probably misjudged & may well be regretted this morning after time to reflect, but he is showing his passion to succeed which I think is a good thing. Regarding player recruitment, you can't expect good player to be available in February with 1/3 of the season left. Good player do not want to commit to a new team for 12/13 games only, they want more security, hence you end up picking from players available which are those other clubs are not too fussed about letting go. If you offer an extended contract then good players will listen & potentially move e.g. Bakkor.
I think there will be chances made in the summer break as Mr PP builds "his" squad. Hopefully key players are retained & others join with a good pedigree that enables us to at least make a good play-off challenge. Obviously next season will likely include Macclesfield & all their riches, so again, we have to be realistic at our abilities v budget available.
Let look forward to eight more good performances on the field & see where we are come end of April. I for one, will be cheering on the lads.

I'm happy with the manager. He's no nonsense and has time now to sort things for next season.
Not sure why we didn't keep Kittrick from the start though. Similarly no nonsense, and one of the best managers we've had in recent times. But for a late goal he nearly did the impossible and keep us up.
