Unfortunately, being unwell, I didn’t attend today’s home match v Belper. I caught up with the Guiseley AFC commentary at the start of the second half, where the commentator gave the distinct impression Belper were the inferior side based on the first half. I next came on the Guiseley AFC site to find the final score was…0-1!! Not good, AND on Non-League Day, when clubs are trying to attract new converts!
Perhaps, the sooner this season is over now the better. What chink of light, or even flicker now seems to have been snuffed out for 2022/23! And, the remaining games no longer offer anything to which we should look forward. In short, we need to be looking much further ahead, perhaps till August 2023! Yet, I am a bit long in the tooth for wishing my life away! Sorry, for this none too optimistic view, but it doesn’t look as if I missed ‘much’ today and, well, I am not feeling that great today anyway!

How as a supporter can you identify with a team that changes every week? There’s no team identity, I feel no allegiance to this team nor to the so called management. We played like the team at the bottom of the league! I feel totally despondent.

I went today not expecting great things it's been a mmwr season so much chopping and changing then what? 3 new signings to cover injuries ,unavailability with international call ups etc and players used into the 60s possibly. So three new starters but the core of a settled team who you would expect to work their socks off the likes of Benni,Courtney, Lewis,Murphy and Chip and in the first half they did going in without the 2 goals they should have had but missed. So don't know what the half time team talk was but the performance was rubbish. Not much else to say really two more home games to try to reestablish some belief and pride. And yes finally communication communication Communication with supporters next season please.

There is sadly a disconnect between supporters and club at the moment which hopefully can be addressed before next season or it could be another season of discontent.
The key is as has been said above … Communication, Communication, Communication

Unfortunate not to go in two goals to the good and made a strong start to the second half then we just gave up and let the bottom of the table team who are virtually relegated take the three points. No forwards and an awol midfield doesn't help but then neither does offloading our captain and left back to a local rival. Delivered brilliant performances at FCUM and Marske but since then the decision making by maangement has been pretty dire.

Not going to slag individual players off or the management but let us at least play for pride. some players think our seasons over. At least give our loyal supporters something to cheer about. Onwards and upwards.

So today… Was a game between safe and relegated and it showed. We were far better and should have been few up by H-T. Their potty-mouthed keeper made a couple of fantastic saves whilst the free kick from B S-B would have been Goal-of-the-Season (and for me lifetime) if that had been 6” to the left. 2nd half should have scored and then they did and to be honest did any of us think we would score thereafter? Was the first time ever that I’ve left the game and gone to the Clubhouse before final whistle but yep, I’m embarrassed to say I left 10mins early and didn’t miss a thing When I saw players 70, 71 & 72 When I realised being part of a relegation/play-off run-in is so much better than what we have today when it no longer matters When we knew who next year’s Captain will be - Step forward CMW When I reflected that nothing really matters until pre-season and first 10-20 games of next season When I realised how much I missed the National League Bring on next season as quickly as possible

A good first half where top saves and sheer bad luck prevented us from opening the scoring but after the first five minutes of the second half we went off the boil and basement battlers Belper took the points. Belper started the game strongly though, they pushed us back without really causing any problems for the opening ten or so minutes. Jackson made a superb stop to deny Cassidy though in our first real moment of the game. Smales-Braithwaite saw a shot crash off the post not long after Murphy went down appealing for a penalty but the ref waved play on. Then Jackson made another good save but he could not stop Smales-Braithwaite's free kick from smacking the bar. The half petered out after that and all eyes were on the second 45. We started that well and Cassidy should have hit the target but dragged his shot wide at the end of a good move. That was to be our last real highlight and it was Belper's turn to spurn a few chances. Wilson made sure to bury his opportunity though after being found unmarked at the backpost. They had two or three good openings after that but Bacon was left untested. Jackson quiet up the other end too despite Smales-Braithwaite flashing a couple of opportunities just past his post, he looked the most likely to score. We move on to a trip to Ashton on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Noticed we borrowed their physio today - has ours been put out on loan somewhere !! As for game it was never going to be fruitful as even the players don't know each other let alone the fans trying to identify who is who. C'est la vie

I’ve calmed down a bit, but only a bit. This afternoon was tremendously frustrating but we’ve seen it before. Pretty sure we’ve even been on the other end of it, snatching a largely undeserved victory when the other side just couldn’t seem to find the net. Hit the post and the bar, two wonder saves from their keeper, and Jake Cassidy contrives to miss the worlds simplest chance. Any or all of them go in and we’re all happy again. But this is 2023 Guiseley, so of course they don’t fall kindly for us, and of course the guy who should’ve blatantly been sent off earlier in the game is the one who scores the winner because it’s just that sort of season.
Sigh.
Positives (if you want to look for them) are the that Kachosa and Nejman look decent additions, and if they have been brought in now with an eye to a longer loan next season, then I’d say they did well today. I agree with MrP’s assessment that CMW could well be captain next season and I wouldn’t be against that. Cam Mason came and sat up in the press bench today and was kicking every ball along with the team - he’s definitely a keeper. (And he’s a ‘keeper!)
It’s fair to say it’s not been the season we expected or hoped for; but if you’d have Offered me a mid table finish last September, I’d have had your arm off.

Why was it that we were the better team for 70 minutes and yet it felt inevitable that Belper would score, and also for it to be Tom Wilson who probably should’ve been sent off? Sometimes I feel like it’s scripted!
