The first half an hour or so when we had 11 men was probably our worst period throughout the game - after that I thought we actually played really well despite going down to 10 men (and eventually 9). We showed a lot of spirit - something that had been lacking until now.
Unfortunately with the injuries to Johnson and Stacey and the upcoming bans for Chippendale and Brown we actually now have an entire 11 either out injured or unavailable for various reasons:
1. Brad Wade (Personal Reasons) 2. Courtney Meppen-Walters (Injury) 3. Reece Kendall (Banned) 4. Ollie Brown (Banned) 5. Lewis Whitham (Injury) 6. Prince Ekpolo (Injury) 7. Liam Tongue (Injury) 8. Jack Dyche (Injury) 9. Callum Chippendale (Banned) 10. Joe Stacey (Injury) 11. Gabriel Johnson (Injury)
Sadly most of the above would probably be in our first 11 too if available. Maybe time to recall Sorhaindo to bolster our numbers upfront if Johnson is out for any length of time?

Never got going first half until we scored, too many players just going through the motions before that. Had our best spell after that and improved in the second half but still far too vulnerable down the left flank. Ref made an early booking for an innocuos challenge which set his stall out for yellows and reds galore in what was a niggly local derby that didn't warrant four sendings off imo apart from the last one which was fully justified.

Mark Bower, though he has many qualities, is not known for objective interviews I don’t know Mark Bower personally and you may know him quite well, but he did make some allegations in his after-match interview about the current way Guiseley play that are not pleasant to hear. Or, at least,I don’t like hearing them! And, he claimed other managers feel this about the Lions too. I want to watch ‘football’ when I attend matches and prefer to see any team I support trying to play the game in the right way. The ‘play the man, forget the ball’ style of play may work for some teams, but I think it ultimately gets found out. And, if that’s what we are doing, it hasn’t worked so far, even in its own terms. Ie We find ourselves at the wrong end of the table at present. I am an admirer of Kallan Murphy and have often said so on this site, but I have seen him using the elbow in the face, more than once. I would like him to curb this part of his game, and concentrate on playing football, where I think he can be highly effective and be more beneficial to the team and its prospects. ‘Two red cards’ means two players out of the next league match, which means more changes and hampers what we’re trying to achieve. There is a place for aggression in football, but it needs to be controlled and within the rules and spirit of the game. I may be in a minority on this, but that’s my feeling on the issue.

I don't know Mark Bower but he constantly moans about refs during and after matches and did when he was with us. Other than that always seemed likeable. I can't think of a single nasty player in our team

I can't think of a single nasty player in our team I’ve mentioned Kallan Murphy as one I’ve seen using the elbow in the way I’ve described. I like the way this lad plays the game (apart from this) and he for one needs to cut this out. He’ll be all the better for it, reducing cards dished out to him for one thing!

name and shame Nik! The team is built on it! Paul’s teams have always been horrible to play against, lots of our lads leave something in on every challenge possible. The one who does it the most is the one most often praised by Paul, Kallan.

Thought we played better when Denton went off. We are far too predictable in our tactics when he plays- lobbing it forward for him to head. I want to see us passing better to feet and making more runs with the ball. We have players with the speed and skill and we are not utilising them As for yesterdays game, BPA fell over at the slightest touch and rolled over at least three times for dramatic effect!! As for where we are , one win in six games is just not good enough Mr Phillips. I know we have a real problem now with injuries and suspensions but something has to change. We can’t struggle on until Christmas and then decide to do something different., it will be too late. We were promised a season of progression and potential promotion and we are a long long way from that goal at the moment.

Positives – a gutsy, committed display as we were one man down for the majority of the game
Negatives - At this level it seems it is all about physicality, finesse is a rarity (thank you Johnson for the goal though!). It was knockabout stuff, entertaining for all the wrong reasons. Not a lot of skill on show. - Defence – awful. Walker completely skinned for the 1st goal. Nik is right about Bob Blackburn's Bentley.
- Red cards. Ref had little choice. Chippendale kicked the guy off the ball right in front of the referee. I would not have wanted to referee that game.
- The return of some of the nasty foul-mouthed silly boys. May need stewarding / parenting / policing.
- Didn’t hear Bower’s interview. Kittrick called us one-dimensional (true), now this. Worrying.
Pre-season promotion optimism? Not going well is it?

I think if my maths is right, bans come into force 7 days after the game, meaning that Ollie Brown and Callum Chippendale are at least still available for the Marine game on Saturday. Both second yellows, so they’ll only miss one and be back for the Atherton game. Not sure how many games Reece Kendall for his straight red though. If it went down as violent conduct he could be out for three games…

Don't listen unless I have to to Paul Phillips interviews I'm not keen on managers who name and blame individual players publicly does nothing for their confidence but never it seems takes any personal responsibility for the games outcome, after all its his game plan. As for Jack Dyce not being injured but not even on the bench is he another on his way out because Mr Phillips brokers no dissent to his brilliance.

It does seem a bit strange that he's not even on the bench if he is not injured.
