Scrappy game and a result neither side needed or wanted.
Lots of endeavour from both sides but little else to get the pulse racing.
Valsau did well when he came on.

FA Cup: Qualifying round: GUISELEY 0 v 0 Marine Sat. 02/09/23
Neither side took any real control in this game and it was fairly even, if not to say nondescript at times. Possibly Marine had the very best chance to score right at the beginning of the first half, but the Lions’ keeper pulled off an excellent stop. It felt towards the end like the match could have gone into an extra 30 minutes and still the score would have been unchanged on the final whistle! Tom Denton and Kallan Murphy both played from the start, but this had no effect on the scoreline and Denton was subbed at half time, with Johnson taking his place. Subs nos 12 (Miguel) and 15 (Prince) contributed to some improvement in the Lions’ play when they came on. But, perhaps the game should have gone straight to penalties, to generate a bit of excitement! (The replay seems to be next week.)

Fair result in a game of few chances . Think we struggled with injuries as Johnson was limping and we had used all substitutes , taking of which CMW was down as a sub but didnt see him on the bench? Was he at the game?

A game of few chances which will be settled on Tuesday night as the Lions missed Reece Kendall through suspension but had Prince Ekpolo on the bench for the first time this season. The game just never seemed to get going and at HT it didn't really feel like anything had happened, neither keeper had much of a save to make. Marine did however perhaps just shade the game and came closest to breaking the deadlock when Ollie Brown cleared the ball off the line. Murphy had a couple of opportunities but couldn't find the target. The second half had a little more exiciting moments and opportunities than the first. Marine went close early on with a free kick that clipped the roof of the net on its way over and another shot was cleared off the line away from danger. Valsau tested Goddard with a shot from range in the first real save the away keeper had made all afternoon. Marine were the side pushing for the winner as we approached the final whistle and went close on a couple of occasions having another effort cleared off the line. Onto a trip to Merseyside on Tuesday night. Come on Guiseley! AB

It has been a very disappointing start to the season but, fortified by wine, I will try to put a more positive spin on things. We have lost 2 games in 7 while missing CMW and Ekpolo and, for the last 3, Tongue. 3 hugely important players. Ollie Battersby looks better every game, Valsau looks highly promising, Murphy has been excellent, Joe Stacey is a real find Back to the wine...

Beer for me tonight Ivor but similar sentiments - thought Valsau looked like he had something about him and have been impressed with Battersby. It was fantastic to see Ekpolo back in a Guiseley shirt finally. That being said it was a painfully dull game today and I'm not convinced by the long ball tactics. We were better second half when we relied less on Denton in my opinion.

Same old, same old again this afternoon with more changes to the starting line up seemingly with our only tactic being to pump the ball long and hope Tom Denton can do something with it. He's then withdrawn at halftime when other players have contributed little or nothing at all. Had high hopes after pre-season but with one win in seven that optimism has now been tempered by an acknowledgement that we have the players but that we are not getting anywhere near the best out of them.
It was summed up this afternoon when a product of the Academy has to demonstrate to his colleagues what commitment and a will to win looks like and that's why I think it's time for a change imo. And I'll be going to support the Academy at Worsborough Bridge on Thursday instead of Tuesday's relay at Marine because Dave Curries side play football and put the effort in to win games.

Got to agree with many that todays game was so not a specticle at all. Think Marine were the better of two poor teams and at least asked a few questions which our defence/keeper managed to deal with.
Think we managed a couple of half chances at best all game. Probably as poor a performance as I've seen so far. Only go point was Prince return to the field finally after what seems like a long wait.
Going to London for short break, hence can't make the replay, but on todays performance would I have gone anyway, probably not.

Not a great game but you know, there’s positives to be had. First of all, we didn’t collapse under pressure. Jameel Ible was immense today, and that’s the best I’ve seen Josh Ashman play since pre season. The extra game is a bit of a pain, but allows Ollie Brown and Callum Chippendale to serve their 1 game suspensions and be available for next Saturday. and Reece Kendall will be back a bit quicker too. (These are small mercies of course, but still…) Also Prince Ekpolo came back and looked a cut above, providing some much needed energy and forward movement just when we needed it. Finally Miguel Valsau came on, caused the Marine defence some bother, created a couple of shots on goal and wound up his marker something rotten by smiling at him after the Marine man tried kicking Miguel six feet in the air. Good on you, Miguel! (I’ve so much time for Miguel) So, sure it wasn’t a great performance and it’ll be nothing short of a miracle if we manage to win the replay given how many are out, but it’s not ENTIRELY all doom and gloom…

Agree entirely with bigj’s comments - Dave Currie - say no more. Think I will be attending more Academy games this season to see how football should be played.

It was in the 58th minute that Guiseley finally managed to string two consecutive passes together.
I paid to watch this !

Pies sold out before kick off. Ten minutes for chips. Long ball, long ball. Nothing positive to say about the play. 3 wins in 19 games.

Whoever picks the music at Guiseley was on point yesterday. Playing "The Jam - That's Entertainment" at halftime after the most boring 45 mins of football I've watched in many years made me smile. Surely it was played in irony?
