Someone to get us back up to the National League North in the first instance and then establish us at that level and take it from there. Football League will always be a dream imo but there again Harrogate did it didn't they?

Do we know any young managers with a fabulously wealthy Dad who is looking to find permanent work in football for their son?

For me, we need a manager who can get us heading for if not into the play-off places which is not an easy task given some of the teams we're up against, but doable with our squad + maybe a couple more.
But as others have said, if we are playing decent style of football with wingers & using a midfield not bypassing them, that should at least see crowd numbers return. Also reducing the card count would be good so that the majority of players are available for selection each week. A settled squad & all that.
We will wait and see who takes the reins, but good look to Liam & his team initially as they'll probably be in charge for the next couple of games at least.

Following the arrival of Paul Phillips and his staff last season, there was an initial improvement in performances and we looked like potential play off contenders for a period of time. However, injuries to key players led to a loss of form and the season petered out in a very disappointing manner unfortunately. We've had another decent preseason (which now seems to be the precursor to a poor start to the league) and looked to have recruited well but despite that, performances and results haven't been great overall, and althogh, I haven't seen all of our games, some of those have not been particularly enjoyable to watch. Each manager has their own way of doing things in order to get the best out of their squad of players in order to achieve results but I am not a fan of criticising players in public (that should be kept behind closed doors if absolutely necessary). This seemed to happen quite often and although being interviewed immediately after a match doesn't allow a manager to calmly reflect on the match, I suspect that this is likely to have had a negative impact on certain players and probably the squad overall (the swift turnaround of certain players seems to support this, dating back to last season). Now that Paul Phillips has left the club by mutual consent (and whatever has happened, good luck to him and his staff for the future) I would like to see a manager appointed who has good experience of this level, looks to play a progressive but flexible style of football built on a solid defence, has a good working relationship with the squad of players and who can keep a reasonably settled and happy squad of players together. If we can get this appointment right then there should be no reason why we cannot still challenge towards the higher league positions this season, given the number of games still to be played but even if we don't, making the right appointment now should allow us to build something for the medium to long term rather than just a quick fix. I'm looking forward to our next game anyway.

Steve Kittrick is free as Basford dismissed him after yesterdays defeat to Ilkeston left them bottom of the pile with just two points from eight games

I'd have kept Kittrick on after the relegation but I don't think I'd reappoint him now.
I'd certainly have Mark Bower back if he was available but my knowledge is pretty much limited to former GAFC managers and I'm sure there's a much wider range of options out there.
What I would like to see in terms of attributes is pretty much the opposite of Phillips. Someone who plays good football and who makes the players enjoy playing. Winning is obviously important, but as long as they win enough games to stay out of trouble I'm OK with not getting promotion as long as there are some entertaining performances and a sense that they're at least trying to play football. I appreciate that most games at this level are a bit of a battle, and all teams have to win the right to play first, but I'd rather the battling was a means to an end rather than the end itself.

I think the Board will be after someone who knows this league and the one above. We should be aspiring to get out of this league, but like danmartin I want to see ‘football’ being played at Nethermoor again, with some enjoyment and the fans being entertained. I want to see my team playing, together, using their skills and football abilities to get the better of the opposition. The approach which resulted in many yellow and red cards should be ditched.

Completely agree with this. Only thing is, I think with the quality of players we've got*, if we start playing well, we'd quite quickly find ourselves in the playoffs chase and that might sharpen our minds on the idea of promotion. *Inevitably some changes will follow, what if the Irish boys or Chippy want to follow Paul again, do we need a specialist centre back or is Walker or Ashman definitely the right partner for Ible, that sort of thing... please god let them not be wholesale changes though

Not particularly surprised to see Phillips sacked. Performances have been bland and boring and results have been poor at best, this despite having a good squad of players who are often plying their trade in a division above. Phillips promised results with his own squad of players which the club duly delivered for him. He wasn’t able to get these results and regularly blamed the players rather than taking responsibility himself so it was inevitable he would be given the boot.
Personally i thought Steve Kittrick had done enough to be given the job after almost saving us but I think that ship has sailed now. Kitty hasn’t set the world on fire at either of his clubs and I got the impressIon he was somewhat angry at not being offered the job at the time. That being said if he was appointed, I would be fully behind him as he has earned another shot at the job in my opinion.
For me, the board have to take some responsibility here too for the mess we are in. Whilst the support to bring in players this season was good, you only have to look at the revolving door policy of players (and now managers) constantly coming and going at the club to realise that something is very wrong with our recruitment behind the scenes.

In my view the Board has acted decisively in making a managerial change at this point in the season. Now they need to be smart in making a new appointment. Our successful period in the the last 15 years came between 2008 and 2016 when we had just two managers - Kittrick and Bower. Since then we have had no success of note and 5 managers - Lockwood, Cox, Bignot/O’Neill, Ellis and Phillips and four of them only lasted a year or less. Time for some stability from which success is most likely to follow. A big decision to be made over the coming days.

Don’t think kitty will be the answer to our problems. Would Alun Armstrong ex Darlow be interested?

Phillips' record as manager for Guiseley was very similar to previous (permanent) managers:
Paul Phillips - 33 Matches Won 12 (36%) Drawn 7 (22%) Lost 14 (42%)
Danny Ellis - 24 Matches Won 10 (42%) Drawn 4 (16%) Lost 10 (42%)
Marcus Bignot/Russ O'Neil - 156 Matches Won 51 (33%) Drawn 39 (25%) Lost 66 (42%)

Did Danny really have 24 matches? Feels like Paul was here a lot longer.
