I don't think that you can say that Matt,I've lived here since 1979 and we are now surrounded by new houses and the occupants are mostly young families not elderly. You are probably right in saying the core of Guiseley AFC supporters are in the older age group but I think that's the same for all local football at our level, mostly people disgruntled with the antics and money thrown at the game at a higher level. You are right in the two points you make in your final sentence. I don’t know about the first one, but I would think it a bit sad if most people living in Guiseley had no interest at all in their local team’s fortunes. But, if it’s the case that the supporter fanbase is mainly older fans, some things could be planned to try to appeal to the very young ones. I am aware there used to be a club mascot character Ie person in a costume. Don’t know what it was called but it was a lion. Why was that dropped, I wonder? Some clubs have a ‘Junior’ section where parents purchase a membership for their child(ren). Eg ‘Lioncubs’ would be the obvious name. (Maybe this was done once?!!) Then, the child members receive a number of ‘benefits’ eg a special scarf, a birthday card, a chance to meet their favourite player(s) and club mascot and an invite to a Christmas party etc. By doing this, it obviously encourages the young ones to adopt Guiseley as their team, thus creating the next generation of GAFC supporters. But, you have to try to get their attention first, by eg making a presentation in a local primary school. Then the children can lobby their parent(s)/carer(s) to take them.
