Huge missed opportunity today. Yet again we were really bad defensively.
We have Macclesfield, Radcliffe and Ashton all back to back in late January/early February which will be tough. If we don't pick up wins against Bradford and Atherton in the next week or two we can forget playoffs.
We scraped a 1-0 vs Basford and got nothing today, both against relegation candidates. Not sure we are good enough to finish in the top 5 sadly on these two performances.
On the subject of Denton, I'm sure he is a great guy but he just doesn't seem to fit with our gameplay. We clearly aim to play a high intensity pressing game which he simply cannot do. He was pretty much a spectator today. He is best deployed as an impact substitute in my opinion, not a first 11 starter.

Agree about being good enough for play-offs on the evidence today. No real positives to pick out. Got beaten by a better side ! Yes, poor defensively but the forwards got precious little to feed off too. I wasn't clear that there actually was a game plan. Hoping for a return to some sort of form at BPA.

Not ideal to start with no wingers/wide attackers and we were pretty easy to play against accordingly because it all came through the middle.
Flat performances from some. Some defending made to look naive against a striker with exceptional movement and timing.
No idea why Tom Pratt was so hellbent on being sent off - could’ve seen red twice, it was only the generally lenient ref who allowed him to stay on the first time but that’s no comfort as that same ref should’ve got his yellow card out a few times in situations that would’ve benefited us. There’s a limit to letting things go.
All in all, pretty disappointing.

Thought we got away with one on Saturday but our luck ran out today. We just let Marske run at us. Poor defending and unable to pass to another teammate led to our downfall. Quite worried about the depth of our squad when we are playing academy players and bringing them on in a quite physical game. We created some good chances Denton should have scored with a header Murphy had a chance with another header. Few free kicks wasted. All goals conceded for me came from our own mistakes. Hope we play better against BPA. Onwards and upwards.

Disappointing result as others have said. I think we suffered a lack of width (Gabriel and Kallan worked hard, but we missed the natural wing man such as Nsaka), and I think Adam Boyes showed his quality in causing problems in the back.
We were slightly off in passing precision but overall I felt Marske were a tougher task than their position suggested. Their current circumstances will certainly be a galvanising force on the field.
Nonetheless we were less effective in the final third than we have been and failed to capitalise on many passages of dominant play.
Some excellent individual performances in my book. Leigh Whelan, Prince Ekpolo, Reece Kendall and Ollie Battersby (who I felt was dealt a tough one with the bobble that led to the goal).
Disappointed with Tom Pratts sending off.
We remain just two points off the play offs. I don’t think we had the XI available that our management team would have wanted to play today - however we don’t seem to be in wily nilly fashion rolling the dice to bring players in which seems a positive after the last year. Hopefully we will strengthen some areas - but with quality rather than quantity - over the coming weeks as the core remain good.
The clubhouse was great after the match and well done to everyone involved in organising the Christmas draw. These are the things that matter in the long run.
Bring on 2024!

Listened to the game again from Malta another over the Christmas period,we are back for the New Year game against BPA. It all sounded a little flat as if we were going through the motions today trying to shake off Christmas, it's IMO a ridiculous time of year to expect players to concentrate on football foregoing celebrations with friends and family, much better to have the season finish later after a sensible break. Anyway,a little setback, dig in boys and bellow at you and the officials soon and Happy and successful New Year.

Got to agree with above comments re beaten by the better team today. Thought Marske were more up for it, more playing on the front foot and hassled us most of the game.
Yes all three goals were defensive mistakes which could or should have been avoided, but they took them and we huffed & puffed but looked second best.
Our performance against Basford was similarly poor but penalty save & a moment of magic got us the 3 points whereas today we weren't as lucky.
Not sure we've got the ability to make the play-offs on current form but still half the season to go & 3 points at BPA would be a good start.

A defeat at a bad time which sees our unbeaten run on home ground since September come to an end. The game felt flat and laboured but we did have some good chances in the opening 45 with Denton, Murphy and Tongue all going close. Battersby had been relatively untested but had to pick the ball out of his net after 20 minutes when Boyes swivelled in the area and finished past the stopper. Just two minutes later though we were level when Whelan's corner was headed in by Kendall. Tongue took a free kick from 30 yards out but it drifted wide of the mark. Battersby had to make a great double save in the closing stages of the half to deny the visitors. The second half felt particularly flat and seemed to take ages to get going or for there to be any proper chances. With ten minutes left Boyes doubled his tally slotting past Battersby before getting a third three minutes later. Ekpolo pulled one back with another good finish after a corner was cleared to the midfielder. Then in injury time the ref made a strange decision to stop play for a foul when there was a clear advantage, Pratt rifled the ball into the top corner but had words with the ref and his assistant and was dismissed for a second yellow. It proved to be the last major talking point of the afternoon. Onto Bradford (Park Avenue) away on New Year's Day. Come on Guiseley! AB

The referee was the best I've seen in a long time. Just a shame that the one time he didn't play advantage saw Tom Pratt go clear and score.

Looked leggy and lethargic today and think we need three or four experienced players to bolster the squad especially at the back if we are to compete for the play-offs. Tom Pratt was very lucky not to get sent off for the first offence and then abusing the liner who had nothing to do with the disallowed goal as it was the ref who stopped play was always going to lead to a red card.

Hi all.
First I’ll introduce myself as Stephen. I’ve been to 3 home games and just got a half season ticket, so I’m very much new. I’m going to try and do my best to be an optimist and support the club in a positive mindset! As has been mentioned, the club appears to be well run with an emphasis on community which is great to join, the printed match day programme is excellent, as is the other media such as commentaries, interviews, website etc
I agree very much with some of the comments above. Starting from the back, it seems to me that Ollie Battersby is an excellent keeper, who has made many important saves to keep us in games. It was sad to see the misfortune yesterday, especially as he had another good game. In particular that save with what appeared to be his face to keep us in the game in the 2nd half.
I actually think the back four played pretty well. There was a bit of miscommunication at times, but nothing overly worrying given the experience of the players and presumably how little they have played together. I think our young lads at wing back have been great. The amount of times we switch play easily is really good to watch. I feel so far from what I’ve seen is the wingbacks are not being helped by our supposedly wide midfielders. Prince and Liam do quite well in the middle to provide an option, and usually if a few passes go together we can cut quite quickly through the opponents. But yesterday in particular it was noticeable how little options there were down the wide flanks. This is also noticeable when throw ins are taken. There seems to be a general lack of movement, not sure why that is? Quick note that Gabrielle does very well in pretty much any area.
Finally, agree with comments about Denton. Seemingly doesn’t really fit with the game plan that Andy is trying to use. Will this be the test of the manager whether he has the clout to bench the 701 appearance man? I’d need to see the highlights but it also looked like he was involved in conceding the first goal. I can see the advantage of having the height for defensive set pieces, but also it seems to cause confusion as he’s out of position. With knock on effects if we then can counter attack. Will be interesting to see what happens next.
So in summary, I think it seems like Andy needs to find a way to get our best players into the game a bit more. It looks like on a good day we can compete in the league. I do understand it is tough though and having played a lot of lower league team sports myself, the physically and officiating does have quite a bit impact on the game.
Finally, finally, I am coming to games by myself, so if anyone would could stand being with an idealist, optimist, naive new fan, I’d be interested in the company, thank you!

The referee was the best I've seen in a long time. Just a shame that the one time he didn't play advantage saw Tom Pratt go clear and score. I thought he ran the game well on the whole. Obviously gutted about that advantage but honestly, Pratt was the one guilty of winding us all up with that by playing on after Marske had stopped with the whistle. I just thought he took the leniency a bit too far in the end - there were a couple of times he really should have been booking their players for cynical fouls near the edge of their area (and frankly, he should’ve sent Pratt off for the open display of violence with their player at the fence).

You will most definitely find someone to stand with at matches and once you do you'll be with them every home game! AB
